Abstract:: William H. Rau (1855-1920) was a prominent Philadelphia photographer and the official photographer for the St. Louis world's Fair in 1904 and of the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in 1905. This collection of twelve photographs from his studio at 1324 Chestnut St. in Philadelphia depicts various buildings and scenes around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Abstract:: The Wistar Family papers measure 1.5 linear feet, date from 1686-1967, and are comprised of correspondence; family and estate documents; genealogical research; and other family material. The collection documents the personal and family lives of Dr. Caspar Wistar II (1740-1811), Mary "Polly" Franklin Wistar (1735-1804), Mary Pearsall Franklin (1703-1786), Sarah Wistar Pennock (1770-1845), Caspar Wistar Pennock (1799-1867), Sarah "Sallie" Wistar Pennock Miller (1840-1909), Virginia Preston Weaver Miller (1868-1951) and Virginia Weaver Miller.

Marilyn Stringer papers, 1980-2013

Abstract:: Dr. Stringer was a Professor in Women’s Health Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. Her clinical scholarship focused on the promotion of a healthy pregnancy and the reduction of preterm births for high-risk women. This collection consists primarily of papers which Marilyn Stringer prepared and received at conferences, workshops, and other professional activities. It also contains correspondence, photographs, certificates, and other materials.

Abstract:: Gynecean Hospital was a women's hospital in Philadelphia, operating from 1888 until 1939, when it merged with the University of Pennsylvania. This collection contains details of 34 student nurses at this hospital during the 1914 to 1918 period. Demographic information from application forms, letters of reference, grades, details of courses, and evaluations of these students are included. Also part of this collection are requests for information from institutions for information after the students had graduated.

Alumni Association of the Albert Einstein Medical Center School of Nursing records and historical collection, 1895-1954 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection contains materials documenting the development of nursing and nurse alumni groups at institutions founded by Jewish benevolent groups and organizations in Philadelphia from the 1890s through the 1990s. The historical material includes minutes, reports, administrative files, artifacts, and photographs depicting nursing and nurse education. These materials primarily concern three establishments which were merged to form the Albert Einstein Medical Center in 1952: the Jewish Hospital, established 1867; the Mt. Sinai Hospital, established in 1905; and the Northern Liberties Hospital established in 1920. (It should be noted that there are no significant records of the Northern Liberties Hospital in this collection.)
