Rosalyn J. Watts, EdD, FAAN, RN, has had a distinguished academic career at the Univerisy of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing which combined teaching, research, and administrative responsibilities that spans three decades. During her teaching career, she launched several new initiatives, including the graduate program for Critical Care Nursing and an elective course in Human Sexuality in Health. In addition, she served for more that two decades as the director of the School’s Biennial Black Health Program, which addressed health disparities for African Americans.

After a brief “retirement,” Dr. Watts returned to the School to lead the Office of Diversity Affairs. As the director of this office, she has interacted with faculty, students, and staff to help facilitate the school’s diversity agenda with emphasis on recruitment of under-represented groups, curriculum development on cultural competence, and faculty development in regards to diversity. Dr. Watts has also moved Penn Nursing’s diversity agenda outside of the confines of the campus and classroom, serving as chairperson of the first Eastern Summit on American Indian Healthcare in June 2005.
