Abstract:
The First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia is a Unitarian Universalist congregation located in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is the longest continually functioning Unitarian church in the United States. The Church was first formed as the Society of Unitarian Christians of Philadelphia in 1796. In 1825, Reverend William Henry Furness (1801-1896) became the Society's first regularly ordained, full-time minister and led the Church for fifty years. As of 2015, the church continues to operate in a building designed for them in 1885 by noted architect Frank Furness (1839-1912), one of the sons of William Henry Furness. Pat Henning (1933-2005) was a social activist and local historian who resided in the West Mount Airy section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Pat Henning papers, 1922-2004, are comprised of newspaper clippings, copies of primary materials, articles, pamphlets, and brochures. There is also a small amount of primary material in the collection, of which the majority is correspondence of Mrs. Francis A. Wister (1920s-1930s) and records of the Mount Airy Express.

Abstract:
Haverford Township is a suburb of Philadelphia situated near the wealthy "Main Line" west of the city. It encompasses the community of Havertown and parts of Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, Drexel Hill, and Wynnewood in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The Haverford Township Historical Society vertical files, circa 1930-2014, contain materials relating to the people, places, historic sites, organizations, businesses, and other aspects of Haverford Township. The files are organized alphabetically by subject or name and largely consist of photocopies of primary-source documents.

Abstract:
Harcum College is a two-year associate degree granting school located in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Established as Harcum Post Graduate School by pianist and music educator Edith Hatcher Harcum in 1915, Harcum began as a university preparatory school for women, but added junior college-level classes shortly thereafter and officially became Harcum Junior College in the 1920s. In 1955, Harcum became the first two-year college in Pennsylvania authorized to grant associate degrees. As of 2016, the school, now known as Harcum College, offers over 20 degree programs to traditional and non-traditional students. The Harcum Junior College records, 1918-2016, consist of administrative records, printed matter and published materials, photographs and audiovisual materials, oversized materials, newspaper clippings, ephemera, and other materials documenting the school and its faculty, students, buildings, curriculum, and activities.

Abstract:
Henry George (1839-1897) was a journalist and political economist best known for writing about and popularizing the idea of the "single tax." His work led to several reform movements in the Progressive Era and inspired the economic philosophy known today as "Georgism." Two of George's children, Henry George Jr. and Anna George de Mille, continued to be active in the single tax movement and promoting their father's legacy after his death in 1897. The Henry George family papers, circa 1844-2000 (bulk 1880-1950), consist of correspondence, published and unpublished works, and other materials from and about Henry George, Henry George Jr., and Agnes George de Mille. There are also photographs, prints, and illustrations of the George family and of Anna George de Mille's family.

Abstract:
The Henry George Birthplace, located at 413 S. Tenth Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is the only surviving residence connected to famed journalist and political economist, Henry George, who was born there in 1839. In 1957, the building was sold to the Henry George School of Social Science (HGSSS), at which time some minor renovations were made. Between 1987 and 1989 the building was restored to its original 1839 appearance. In 2013 the Birthplace was designated as a research and education division within the HGSSS, and was renamed the Henry George Birthplace, Archive, and Research Center. Ruth Ehrlen Irwin collection, 1890-2008 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Established around the turn of the 18th century, the Langhorne Hotel served the numerous visitors who traveled through the transportation hub of Langhorne (Bucks County, Pa.) on their way between Philadelphia (Pa.) and Trenton (N.J.). Ruth Ehrlen Irwin's father, George G. Ehrlen, owned the Langhorne Hotel from 1905 to 1937. A native of Langhorne, Ruth Ehrlen Irwin worked as a teacher primarily in the Langhorne-Middletown School District. The Ruth Ehrlen Irwin collection, 1890-2008, consists of various materials, including hotel registers, scrapbooks, photographs, and ephemera relating to the Langhorne Hotel, Ruth Ehrlen Irwin, Irwin's family, and the history of Langhorne.
