Overview and metadata sections
The Women's Committee of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia was organized in 1971 by Mrs. Frank Elliott to promote the welfare of the College through volunteer activities, publicity, and financial support. As of 2005, it was still an active organization. The organization is not an official College committee but exists in an independent relation to the institution. The Women's Committee was accorded official recognition by College Council on October 26, 1971. Its officers were a president, president-elect, recording secretary, corresponding secretary, and treasurer; each served a two-year term and were a member of the Committee's Executive Board. It seems the Women's Committee was made up mostly of Fellows' wives.
The Records of the Women's Committee span the years 1994 to 2008, and document the activities and membership of the Committee. Included in this small collection are annual reports for the years 1998 through 2008, lists of board members - including presidents - for several years between 1994 and 2008; and a few pieces of administrative correspondence dating from 1999 to 2003. The bulk of the materials held in this collection are comprised of event mailings and flyers for various events, including museum tours and luncheons, held and/or sponsored by the Women's Committee for the years 1999 through 2008.
