Abstract:
Jay Wesley Worrall Jr. (1916-2010) was born in Pennsylvania and graduated from Haverford College in 1937. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. In 1942, he married Carolyn Randal. After the war, he worked as a marketing manager and joined the Religious Society of Friends as a member of the Reading Meeting. He served again in the military during the Korean War. He was an active participant in the civil rights movement and worked to assist prisoners in reentering society. After his retirement, he wrote The Friendly Virginians: America's First Quakers, regarded as the most comprehensive history of the Quakers in Virginia from colonial to modern times. The collection consists of hand-written index cards contained in 13 boxes comprising information gained through research by Jay Worrall Jr. on Quaker families and individuals and Quaker Meetings in Virginia, as well as a bibliography, exhaustively researched by Worrall toward his 1994 book The Friendly...(see more)

Abstract:
The Quaker families of Jones and Cadbury were interrelated with many other Quaker families in the United States and England. This collection provides a rich source of genealogical and historical information, not only on the Jones and Cadbury families, and especially Mary Hoxie Jones (1904-2003) and Emma Cadbury Jr. (1875-1965), but also, significantly, on the Warder family, as well as the Bartram, Brown, Carter, Foulke, Kaighn, Lowry, Mennell, Pearsall, Shinn, and Shipley families.

Murray F. Freeman papers, 1950-2001

Abstract:
This collection consists of documents belonging to Murray F. Freeman (1927-2000), a Haverford alumnus and mathematical engineer. They record his work to develop standards for programming languages such as SQL and FORTRAN, for information interchange and interpretation, and for describing specifications outside of programming languages. They also record his work at Bellcore, General Electric, and Philco. Some personal and miscellaneous documents are included as well.

John Heliker sketchbooks, 1970-2000; 2012 (inclusive)

Abstract:
John Heliker (1909-2000) was an artist who has been featured in exhibitions at several major American museums and taught art at Columbia University for 27 years. The sketchbooks series consists of ten sketchbooks of various subject and media. The majority of the sketchbooks contains charcoal sketches of human and animal subjects as well as still lifes and landscapes, and also contain several watercolor drawings of human figures, still lifes, and landscapes.

Divotees Golf Club records, 1920-1995 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Divotees were a largely Quaker club. The records of the Divotees, 1921-1995, indicate that meetings generally involved a game of golf in addition to club business, such as nominating new members and taking and spending money. Also included are records of each member's handicap, prizes awarded, and the complete records of each year's games. These records are combined into yearly publications: the "Divotee Mirror," later the "Divotee Record." This publication also records the Divotees' rivalry with the Ozones, another golf club, occasional golfing trips to Bermuda, and the jokes, songs, cartoons, poems, and other lighthearted material related to the club.
