Abstract:
This is the collection for the Tract Association of Friends of Philadelphia.

The Tract Association of Friends in Philadelphia was founded in 1816 for the purposes of "printing and distribution of moral and religious books and pamphlets, principally such as explain and enforce the doctrines of the Christian religion." By the 1850s, the association had distributed over four million tracts. The Association still exists today. Their website is: http://www.tractassociation.org

This collection includes both the official business of the organization, including minutes, correspondence, financial records, and annual proceedings, as well as published materials of which two have been preserved, as able, including tracts, almanacs, calendars, and books. The Association had a collection of tract association materials from non-Philadelphia tract associations, which is included at the end of the collection.

This collection has four series:

  • Minutes and Correspondence (split into two subseries: minutes and correspondence)
  • Financial Records
  • Annual Proceedings
  • Publications (split into five subseries: tracts, almanacs, calendars, books and other publications, and non-Philadelphia materials)
