The Suburban Horsham Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce (SHWGCC) was a civic group in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania created through a merger of the Greater Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce and the Horsham Township Chamber of Commerce. The mission of the SHWGCC was to improve the business environment of the area. The SHWGCC was active from 2004 to 2008, before splitting into the Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Horsham Chamber of Commerce.
The SHWGCC was heavily involved in a 2005 attempt to prevent the closure of the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove.
This collection is comprised of records from the two institutions that merged to create the Suburban Horsham Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce (SHWGCC)--the Greater Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce and the Horsham Township Chamber of Commerce--as well as the SHWGCC itself. The records date from 1965 to 2006, with most materials dating from 1987 to 2006.
The Greater Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce records include: board minutes, 1987-2000; photographs of Chamber of Commerce events and of local businesses, circa 1990-2005; event planning binders (Oktoberfest, Secretary's Day, etc.), circa 2003; guest books, 2000; scrapbooks with photographs, clippings, and some ephemera, 1965-1992; framed plaques, photographs of members, and awards; reports; and correspondence, 1997-2002.
The Horsham Township Chamber of Commerce records include their fund charter and by-laws.
The SHWGCC records, which date from 2004 to 2006, include correspondence, subject files on programs (e.g. ambassadors), and studies and reports relating to Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove closure and realignment.

Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2011-2012 as part of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania’s Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR), using data provided by the Old York Road Historical Society. The HCI-PSAR project was funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
This is a preliminary finding aid. No physical processing, rehousing, reorganizing, or folder listing was done in the HCI-PSAR project.
