Abstract:: The Quaker families of Jones and Cadbury were interrelated with many other Quaker families in the United States and England. This collection provides a rich source of genealogical and historical information, not only on the Jones and Cadbury families, and especially Mary Hoxie Jones (1904-2003) and Emma Cadbury Jr. (1875-1965), but also, significantly, on the Warder family, as well as the Bartram, Brown, Carter, Foulke, Kaighn, Lowry, Mennell, Pearsall, Shinn, and Shipley families.

Murray F. Freeman papers, 1950-2001

Abstract:: This collection consists of documents belonging to Murray F. Freeman (1927-2000), a Haverford alumnus and mathematical engineer. They record his work to develop standards for programming languages such as SQL and FORTRAN, for information interchange and interpretation, and for describing specifications outside of programming languages. They also record his work at Bellcore, General Electric, and Philco. Some personal and miscellaneous documents are included as well.

Abstract:: This collection contains the materials of several generations of Quaker families in the United States. Prominently featured are Richard Reeve Wood and Nancy Morris Wood; Edward S. Wood, Richard's father; and Alexander Cooper and Mary Emma Stokes Wood, Richard's grandfather and grandmother. Richard attended several sessions of the League of Nations and participated in meetings leading to the formation of the United Nations in 1945.

John Heliker sketchbooks, 1970-2000; 2012 (inclusive)

Abstract:: John Heliker (1909-2000) was an artist who has been featured in exhibitions at several major American museums and taught art at Columbia University for 27 years. The sketchbooks series consists of ten sketchbooks of various subject and media. The majority of the sketchbooks contains charcoal sketches of human and animal subjects as well as still lifes and landscapes, and also contain several watercolor drawings of human figures, still lifes, and landscapes.

Plymouth Meeting Historical Society subject files, 1950-1990 (bulk) 1787-2012 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Plymouth Meeting (in Plymouth and Whitemarsh Townships) in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, was settled during the late 17th century by English and Welsh Quaker and German immigrants. In 1686, the discovery of limestone drew more settlers to the area. Several railroad lines were constructed in the area during the 19th century, which encouraged a growth in industry. Plymouth and Whitemarsh grew significantly after World War II, especially during the latter decades of the 20th century after completion of the Blue Route (Interstate 476) with its major interchange in Plymouth Township. The Plymouth Meeting Historical Society subject files, 1787-2012, document Plymouth and Whitemarsh local history including people, families, buildings and locales, events, and organizations. Most of the materials are secondary-source, such as newspaper clippings, photocopies, research notes, pamphlets, and ephemera with a small amount of original, primary source documents.

Pearl S. Buck International photograph collection, circa 1860-2005

Abstract:: In 1964 the Pearl S. Buck Foundation was organized by American author and humanitarian Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973) to provide support to children in Asian countries who were not eligible for adoption. In 1999, the Foundation changed its name to Pearl S. Buck International (PSBI). As of 2015, PSBI strives to support cross-cultural understanding and appreciation, enhance the quality of life for children around the world, and promote Pearl S. Buck's legacy by preserving and interpreting Green Hills Farm, her home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The Pearl S. Buck International photograph collection, circa 1860-2005, consists of the photographs from the Pearl S. Buck and Richard J. Walsh papers, as well as images from Pearl S. Buck International. The images are organized by subject and include original photographs and some copies or enlargements. There are a few tintypes, contact sheets, and negatives.
