Abstract:: This collection consists of notes taken by Mary V. Clymer, a nurse famous for her appearance in Thomas Eakins' painting "The Agnew Clinic." Clymer was a student at the Training School for Nurses at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, from 1888 to 1889. The notes documented the variety of experiences which were part of her educational program.

Frank Blase collection on North Penn History, 1930-1997 (bulk) 1884-1997 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Francis "Frank" Blase Jr. (1938-1999) was a Pennsylvania resident was devoted to local and coal mining history. He was a member of the Lansdale Historical Society (Montgomery County, Pa.) and founded the North Penn Historical Library (Montgomery County, Pa.) and the Research Library for Coal Mining (Pottsville, Pa.). The Frank Blase collection on North Penn History, 1884-1997, consists almost entirely of newspaper clippings, with a few original photographs (circa 1900-1915), handwritten notes, and pamphlets. The collection focuses on the North Penn region of Montgomery County (near Lansdale, Pa.); parts of Philadelphia, Berks, Bucks, Montgomery, Lehigh, and Lancaster counties in Pennsylvania are also covered in the collection.

Culin assembled a collection of advertisements related to businesses and products largely located and sold in Philadelphia between May 1884 and February 1886. The collection features two scrapbooks and a series of 93 loose advertisements organized by topic.

Elkinton Family Doukhobor Papers, 1884- (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Doukhobors are a pacifist sect. They originated in Russia but were forced to emigrate to Canada in 1898 due to their refusal to bear arms for the Tsar. In the late 1930s their leader, Peter P. Verigin, created an organization known as the Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ, also known as the Orthodox Doukhobors, which has maintained the tradition of Doukhobor cultural activities. The Elkinton Family, a prominent Philadelphia (Pa.) Quaker family, and other members of the Society of Friends in Canada and the United States have offered moral and material assistance to the Doukhobors because of the connection of their beliefs in pacifism and simplicity.
