Abstract:: This collection consists primarily of documents concerning government administration in Ireland during the tenures of Sir Robert Southwell (1635-1702) and his son Edward Southwell (1671-1730) as Secretaries of State for Ireland. The documents here are largely miscellaneous in nature but are clustered around a few themes. Highlights include lists of rents and financial transactions from the period after Cromwell's invasion and before the Williamite war in Ireland, a 1689 eyewitness letter recounting the battle of Derry, a series of documents related to admiralty, smuggling, and collecting maritime revenue in the first decade of the eighteenth century, an inventory of maps of Ireland, and a substantive series of petitions relating to Richard Blake of Ardfry.

Abstract:: The Savoy Company is the oldest amateur theater company dedicated to the production of the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. The donor, Mark Chiacchiere, Esq. served a member of the Savoy company and has held the offices of Treasurer and President. This collection contains materials dating from the years 1982-2012 (bulk 1998-2005) pertaining mostly to matters of finances, performance and rehearsal locations, meetings, productions, social events, and other related functions.

The sermons appear to have been delivered between 1850 and 1879 and, apart from a few that seem to be from a collection entitled "Lectures on the Shorter Catechism," seem unconnected and cover many diverse topics based on Bible verses identified in the title of each file.

Joseph Hergesheimer collection, 1954-1956 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Joseph Hergesheimer (1880-1954) was a prominent American novelist and short story writer of the early 20th century whose best-known novels include The Lay Anthony (1914), Three Black Pennys (1917), and Java Head (1919). This collection presents a fragmentary sample of his notebooks which include drafts of stories, poetry, and recollections of F. Scott Fitzgerald. These are supplemented by autobiographical material, bibliographies, a reminiscence about writer James Branch Cabell, and correspondence (from Dorothy Hergesheimer and Louisa Jessup) with William McCarthy, the donor of the collection.
