Abstract:
This collection contains the records of the Friends Conference on Religion and Psychology, primarily from the years 1943 to 1997. The Conference was originally founded as a way of addressing the spiritual turnmoil people were feeling after World War II. It continues to examine the ways Jungian psychology interacts with Quaker beliefs at its annual three-day conference over the Memorial Day weekend.

Judy and Michael Van Hoy Papers, 1967-2015 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The papers of Judy and Michael Van Hoy, members of Green Street Monthly Meeting, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who have been deeply involved in social justice concerns particularly through the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Workcamps programs. Both also were active in international workcamps, especially in Kenya. Judy Van Hoy maintained correspondence with many international workcampers, including extensive correspondence with Jane Swart, a South African who worked at the Quaker Peace Centre in the early 1990s. In addition to their employment with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, both Van Hoys are teachers and peace and social activists. The papers include correspondence, writings, and related material and provide insight into the concerns of late 20th century Philadelphia Quakers.

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Records: Administrative Council and its predecessors (including General Secretary Offices), 1829-2005 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The administrative structure of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting has been re-worked a number of times. This finding aid describes administrative records and office files, primarily from the early 20th century to the present -- from the time when the Hicksite and Orthodox Yearly Meetings first began to employ paid staff to handle administrative matters. Today these functions are grouped under the auspices of General Services. This finding aid also describes the records of the General Secretaries of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting from 1967 to 1996.

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Records: Committee on the United Nations (1974-2015), 1974-2001 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Committee on the United Nations was formed at the beginning of 1974 to “create, among Friends and people within the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting area generally, greater support for the UN and stronger concern for the problems the UN was designed to meet.” It began as a subcommittee of the Peace Committee, but in 1982 was made into a full committee. The committee published a newsletter, made presentations to schools and churches, and sponsored the Model UN Convention for Friends Schools. As an organization with non-governmental status (NGO) to the UN Department of Public Information, representatives from the group were able to provide a great deal of information about UN issues to Philadelphia-area Quakers. Under the reorganization of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 1998, the Committee on the United Nations was renamed the United Nations Working Group under the Peace and Concerns Standing Committee.

Abstract:
The Weekend Workcamps Program originated on the eve of World War II. It provides volunteers and opportunity to work in an inner city community, interact with neighbors, and dialog on peace and justice issues. Today the Friends' Workcamp Program operates under the auspices of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting's Standing Committee on Peace and Concerns. Records include minutes, reports, project files, correspondence, and other records from 1942 to the present.

Abstract:
A Friends World Conference Committee, sponsored by the Fellowship Council of the American Friends Service Committee, was established in 1932 to promote better understanding among Friends world wide. The representatives at the Second World Conference of Friends, held at Swarthmore and Haverford Colleges, Pa., in 1937, approved the establishment of a continuing international organization, a Friends World Committee, to promote international contacts and cooperation among Friends. In 1958, it was formalized as Friend World Committee for Consulation which meets triennially at different locations all over the world. FWCC's World Office is in London, England, and it has four sections: Africa, Americas, Asia and West Pacific, and Europe amd Middle East. FWCC's Section of the Americas is based in Philadelphia, Pa. This collection contains the records of the office of Friends World Committee for Consultation. Section of the Americas.
