Abstract:
Mary Williams Shoemaker (1861-1953) was a Quaker philanthropist from Germantown, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Franklin and Mary (Williams) Shoemaker. The collection contains chiefly journals (1934-1945) and correspondence (1914-1953) relating to Shoemaker's support of Quaker historical, educational, and social service agencies; together with correspondence of her brother, Thomas Howard Shoemaker (1851-1936), relating to his historical interests and civic activities. Includes deeds and business papers relating to Shoemaker family properties in Philadelphia and Pike County.

She was editor of the Bulletin of the Friends Historical Association and President of the John Woolman Association.

"Records of Quaker Discipline in Pennsylvania, 1682-1776," by Jack D. Marietta, provides a code that tracks offenses in Pennsylvania Monthly Meetings from 1682 to 1776. The code includes the name of the offender, sex of the individual, the Monthly and Quarterly Meeting, the date, the number of offenses, the type of offense (coded), and the resolution of the case (coded). PG6 Quaker meeting reference files consists primarily of publications by and about Quaker meetings and committees, including pamphlets, newspaper clippings, ephemera, and other materials (mostly secondary source), collected at various times from various sources, and organized by meeting. It also includes directories (including lists of Quaker member organizations and individual Quakers) and epistles (letters exchanged between Quaker organizations, especially from one yearly meeting to another; often used to articulate Quaker doctrine and discipline). Some almanacs are stored with the collection, but are cataloged separately.

The manuscript therefore acts as both an autobiography of Roger's own life in the house, and as a family history.

The Speakers' Bureau of the Friends Peace Committee, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting was founded as a volunteer-run sub-committee for the Friends Peace Committee. The Bureau worked with schools, civic groups, service clubs, and church groups, among other organizations interested in "discussing or studying problems of the international order and the strengthening of the peace," according to one of their brochures. This collection is comprised of six volumes of record books for the Speakers' Bureau of the Friends Peace Committee, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
