Abstract:
The collection contains family correspondence (4 ALsS), genealogical notes, and bible records. It includes family correspondence received by Rebecca Clark, 1804-1806, before her marriage to John Humphrey. One letter is from her sister Elizabeth and the other letters were written by her mother Bathsheba Clark. Bathsheba mentions caring for a grandchild with smallpox and various needlework projects. The genealogical information includes pages from a family bible, research on the Allen, Clark, and Elten families, much of which is consolidated into a family tree by Richard J. Allen, Jr. (1860-1935), an older brother of William C. Allen.

Abstract:
This collection contains manuscripts and other materials relating to the Whitson, Smedley, Fisher and other Quaker families of southeastern Pennsylvania. Along with commonplace books, correspondence, and photographs are a series of thematically arranged genealogical binders assembled by the donors. Of particular interest are the battlefield correspondence of Sam Smedley who was killed in the American Civil War and the journal of Esther Whitson, later Cope, who served as a nurse with the AFSC in Russia in the early 1920s

Anna W. Stout correspondence received, 1864-1891 (-1886-1891) (inclusive)

Abstract:
The collection contains correspondence received by Anna W. Stout who attended the Preparative Department at Swarthmore College from 1884 to 1886 and then moved to Grand Meadow, Minn. Five letters are from Albert M. Johnson; four from Arabella Carter; and a single letter (1886) is from Alice Bowman Comly at Swarthmore which mentions improvements at the College made on the observatory and a new track and grandstand. The bulk of the letters (18) are from her cousin Frank W. Hibbs, a student at the Naval Academy at Annapolis who became a Navy officer. There also is an 1864 letter from William M. Weckerly to Samuel R. Stout that informs him of his acceptance into a fraternal society in Philadelphia.

Ely-Eastburn family correspondence, 1825, 1837-1876 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The collection contains correspondence received by members of the Ely and Eastburn family, Quakers of Bucks County, Pa. Much of the correspondence concerns estate matters which was received by Hugh B. Ely as an executor of the estate of Elias Ely. The second group is largely family correspondence received by Mary Anna Ely who married Moses Eastburn in 1845. Most of the letters were written by her sister Francenia (Fanny) before Mary Anna's marriage and are devoted to family matters. The third group contains correspondence received by Mary Anna after her marriage and seven letters to her son Hugh B. Eastburn, including tow which concern teaching positions. He served as superintendent of schools in Bucks County in the 1870s and later became an attorney.

Eugene Vickers Civil War correspondence, 1862-1864 (inclusive)

Abstract:
This small collection of Civil War correspondence consists of letters of a Hicksite Quaker family of West Chester, Pennsylvania, received by Eugene Vickers while he was serving with Company C of the 97th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers in the coastal South. Most of the letters are from his mother, Elizabeth (Painter) Vickers. A few are from his brothers, Jonathan and Joseph P. Vickers, who also served the Union cause, and his father, Joseph Vickers. The material is particularly interesting for the insight into Quaker attitudes during the Civil War.
