Gotham Book Mart records, 1723-2006 (inclusive) 1967-2006 (bulk)

Abstract:: The Gotham Book Mart (1920-2006) was one of New York City's most iconic bookstores during the 20th century. Founded by Frances Steloff (1887-1989), the daughter of poor Russian-Jewish immigrants, the Book Mart became a social center for the New York literati and a focal point for literary modernism in the United States. Steloff's successor, independent literary manuscript dealer Andreas Brown (1933-), maintained the store's focus on avant garde and small press publications while incorporating his own interests in postcards and genealogy. This collection contains 91 boxes of material relating to the daily operation of the Book Mart; correspondence, biographical, and legal material from both Brown and Steloff; postcard and genealogical material collected by Brown; photographs of the store, its employees, and events which took place there; and manuscripts and ephemera offered for sale.

Clement and Sophie Winston family papers, 1903-1999, undated (inclusive)

Abstract:: Clement and Sophie Winston lived and worked in Washington, DC from the 1930s to the 1980s. Clement Winston (1902-1986), a Russian Jewish immigrant worked as an economist at the United States Bureau of the Budget. Sophie Zion Winston (1902-1986) was an artist who worked as an art therapist during World War II and exhibited her own artwork from the 1940s to 1960s. This collection documents the couple's personal and professional lives through their creative and professional writings, correspondence, and household accounts, dating from 1903 to 1999.

Journal of the American Musicological Society records, 1931-1995 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The records primarily consist of correspondence with authors, editorial staff, employees of the William Byrd Press, and officers of the American Musicological Society; copies of many issues of the Journal at various stages in th e publication process; and business records. The most prominent figures in the collection are the editors of the Journal; musicologists Oliver Strunk, Donald Grout, Lewis Lockwood, James Haar, Martin Picker, Don Randel, Lawrence Bernstein, Nicholas Temperley, Ellen Rosand, and Richard Kramer are also well represented.

Abstract:: Personal papers of business executive and philanthropist David J. Mahoney. The bulk of the materials comprise correspondence from 1951 to 2000, including letters from Richard Nixon, Norton Simon, William Safire, and Vernon Jordan; writings from 1965 to 1999, including two books written by Mahoney: Confessions of a Street Smart Manager (1988) with Richard Conarroe and The Longevity Strategy: How to Live to 100 Using the Brain-Body Connection (1998) with Richard Restak, M.D.; and events covering the years 1968 to 1998, such as the Horatio Alger Award, which Mahoney won in 1977, and the Bilderburg Conference in both 1981 and 1982. Also available are newspaper clippings and publicity materials focusing on Mahoney as a society figure and businessman, media such as VHS tapes and DVD's, books, photographs, and award plaques and medals.

Abstract:: The Suburban Horsham Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce (SHWGCC) was a civic group in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania that worked to advance the business interests of the area from about 2004 to 2008. The Suburban Horsham Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce records, 1965-2006, include administrative records from SHWGCC as well as from the two former organizations which merged to create it: the Greater Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce and the Horsham Township Chamber of Commerce.

Abstract:: George P. Turner (1915-2004) was a consultant and business owner who worked to promote development and tourism in Latin America, particularly the Dominican Republic. He owned multiple companies and consulted for both businesses and governments, garnering expertise in the economics and business of Latin America during the 1960s and 1970s. This collection consists mainly of Turner's professional working records; however there are also education, military, and personal/family records contained within the material.

Greater Jenkintown Chamber of Commerce records, 1962-1994 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Jenkintown Businessmen's Association was established in 1933. Over the next several years the organization changed its name a number of times. In 1961 the group became known as the Jenkintown Chamber of Commerce. The organization marked its expanding geographical interests when it renamed itself the Greater Jenkintown Chamber of Commerce in 1968 and then the Eastern Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce in 1992. The Greater Jenkintown Chamber of Commerce records, 1962-1994, consist of Board of Directors minutes and other materials relating to the activities of the organization.
