Morley Family papers, 1852-1998 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection focuses on the personal and professional life of Christopher Darlington Morley. Morley was a professor's son, and he began writing for pleasure very early in life. This collection includes material from his academic career, at Haverford College, and as a Rhodes scholar at Oxford University, which consists primarily of notebooks and essays. The bulk of the collection, however, focuses on Morley's professional creative writing, including newspaper columns, essays, novels, lectures, and poetry. Much of Morley's correspondence is also included, both professional and personal, and some writing and corresponcence from other Morley family members.

Woodbourne Orchards and family of Francis R. Cope Jr., 1848-1997 (inclusive)

Extent:: 43 boxes (26 boxes in original collection, 17 boxes in addition, 43 boxes total, and 1 tube.)
Abstract:: Papers of the Cope family whose members descended from or were forebears of Francis R. Cope Jr. (1878-1962). The bulk of the papers was created by Francis R. Cope Jr., his daughter, Theodora Morris Cope and her first husband, John Frederick Stanwell-Fletcher. Other principal writers in the collection are Alexis T. Cope, Agnes Cope, Anna S. Cope, Caroline Cope, Clementine Cope, Elizabeth S. Cope, and Evelyn Cope, all from the 19th and 20th century. The earlier Copes were Quakers, but some joined other Protestant denominations.

H. Mather Lippincott '43 papers, 1943-2000 (inclusive)

Abstract:: A collection of papers relating to H. Mather Lippincott, Haverford College class of 1943, dating from his days as an undergraduate and through a number of class reunions, the latest being the 57th reunion in 2000. In addition, there is a cloth doll of a Quaker lady, Mrs. Phillips, created by Franklin, as well as some negatives of work accomplished by the architectural firm of Cope & Lippincott.

Taylor and Nicholson family papers, 1869-1944 1810-1999 (inclusive) 1869-1944 (bulk)

Extent:: 10.75 linear ft. (21 boxes and 2 rolled items in a tube) and 21 containers and 3 rolled photographs
Abstract:: The Taylor and Nicholson family papers contain the records of these two families from the late-nineteenth to mid-twentieth centuries. The two focal points of this collection are William Nicholson Taylor (1882-1945), and his mother, Rebecca Morgan Nicholson Taylor (1857-1944). William graduated from Harvard in 1903 and afterwards spent considerable time abroad studying architecture. He also served as an officer in the United States Military from 1916 to 1917, and worked in diplomacy after the war. Rebecca was a noted writer and poet during this time period. The strength of this collection is the collected materials related to William's time in the military, as well as his sketchbooks related to architecture and Harvard. Researchers interested in the works of Rebecca Morgan Nicholson Taylor or Quaker women, should also consult Rebecca's notebook and correspondence. There is extensive correspondence between the various members of these two families from the 1880s to 1940s.
