"Notes on Early Friends Attending Meetings", 1816-1843 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The beginning of the manuscript of Jeffrey Smedley, entitled "Notes on Early Friends Attending Meetings," was used to record financial transactions, but the majority of the volume describes testimony given by various Quakers at Meetings for worship, arranged chronologically. Many of the entries are related to Elias Hicks.

Abstract:: Satterthwaite family materials are primarily letters of family members in the 18th century to William Satterthwaite, as well as genealogical information (deaths, marriages, children, mostly 19th century) on the Satterthwaite, Mitchell, Stackhouse, Palmer, Simpson, Tomlinson, Wood, Croasdale, and other families.

Scattergood family papers, circa 1800-1876 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Primarily the letters of the Quaker Scattergood family detailing daily life in the Philadelphia area and touching on issues of dress. There is a also a letter of Joseph Scattergood from Tunesassa, New York, telling of his work with Cornplanter's Native Americans. As well, there is a diary kept by Ann Sellers from 1853 to 1856 and a cookbook, circa 1800.

Abstract:: This collection contains materials pertaining to the Taylor family. It contains correspondence, journals, legal documents, genealogical information, and research in the history of Quakerism. There are also many photographs in the collection, including carte de vistas and other nineteenth century photographic techniques. Other related families within the collection include the Savery, Scattergood, Richie, Hooton, and Roberts families.

Hartshorne Family papers, 1797-1957 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Papers include correspondence of thirty-two members and relatives of the Hartshorne family. -Of special interest are the medical notes, articles, and correspondence, 1819-1845, of Joseph Hartshorne, M.D. These are noteworthy because of his many innovation in surgery, such as the use of animal ligatures, plus his detailed descriptions of treatments for various ailments. -The correspondence of Anna C. Hartshorne covering her missionary work in Japan -Henry Hartshorne's "Letters from Japan," printed in the Friend Review, 1893-1894, plus sermons, etc., given by him while in Japan with Anna, 1893-1897. -The bulk of the collection consists of the correspondence, medical papers, literary works, etc., of Henry Hartshorne, M.D., son of Joseph and father of Anna. -also include genealogical material on the Bonsall, Hartshorne, Saunders, Yarnall, and Cope families as well as photographs.
