Abstract:: The collection contains correspondence between members of the Gideon and Mary W. (Willets) Frost family, Hicksite Quakers of Westbury, Long Island, New York. Gideon Frost was a successful merchant, philanthropist, and founder of Friends Academy at Locust Valley. Family members were active in Quaker concerns, especially education and abolition. The letters mention prominent Friends, family, and anti-slavery concerns.

Abstract:: This collection contains miscellaneous photographs, engravings, illustrations, and other images, acquired over time from various sources by the Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College. Most depict Quaker schools or the the homes of Quaker families. There are also historically Quaker senior homes, conference and retreat centers, colleges and universities, and social service agencies (hospitals, orphanages, etc.). There are images of additional miscellaneous organizations and topics related to the Society of Friends, as well as some subjects and locales with no direct or obvious connection to Quakerism.

Abstract:: This collection contains miscellaneous photographs, engravings, illustrations, and other images, acquired over time from various sources by the Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College. The bulk is individual portraits of Quakers, with a few non-Quakers mixed in. There are also some group portraits of Quaker families and Quaker organizations.

Sharples-Paschall Family Papers, 1684-1948 (inclusive)

Extent:: 1.5 linear ft. (3 boxes plus oversized folder and photographs)
Abstract:: Contains collected papers of the Sharples-Paschall family, Quakers of Philadelphia and Chester County, Pennsylvania. The family descended from Nathan H. and Martha (Price) Sharples and Thomas and Anne (Price Gibson) Paschall. The collection includes deeds, estate and other legal papers, and a small amount of family correspondence compiled by Alfred D. Sharples and his son, Alfred Roberts Sharples. The legal records include apprenticeship agreements, deeds relating to Rees, Price, and Sharples/Sharpless properties in Chester County, and the notarized 1837 freedom paper for Nancy Laws. The correspondence includes letters written by a Sharples relation serving on the gunboat U.S. Delaware in 1862.

Oliver Family Papers, 1706-2018 (inclusive) 1830-1960 (bulk)

Abstract:: The collection contains the papers of the family of Wendell French Oliver, New England and Pennsylvania Wilburite Quakers. Gamaliel Wallis Oliver (1772-1849) was a successful Lynn, Massachusetts, shoe manufacturer who married Charlotte Breed in 1807. Two grandsons, Wendell French Oliver and William Theodore Oliver, were conscientious objectors in WWI and served with the AFSC in European Reconstruction. The collection includes journals, photographs, and related papers of Wendell, W. Theodore, and Theodore's wife, Sarah Wood Oliver, a member of Perry City Monthly Meeting. Also a small amount of correspondence, a journal kept by Freelove Owen Pyle, 1909-1920, and genealogical and miscellaneous papers of the Satterthwaite and Buzby families of New Jersey and the Lane family of New York State. In addition to the WWI conscientious objectors material, of special interest are a letter from Quaker minister Mehetabel Jenkins and a letter from William Lloyd Garrison. Adelaide Hallock Wood family papers, 1746-2017 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The collection contains materials which descended in the family of Daniel Wood (1729-1773), Quakers of Bristol, Massachusetts, and New York State. It includes family bibles with annotations, an essay book kept by Adelaide Hallock Wood when a student at the Oakwood School, genealogical research on the Wood and Hallock families, transcripts, notes, and a small number of family photographs.

Alfred Parrish family papers, 1851-1957 (inclusive)

Extent:: 2.5 linear ft. (5 boxes)
Abstract:: Business letter books, estate papers, and personal correspondence of Alfred Parrish (1848-1921). He and his brother Dillwyn Parrish were involved with tramway (trolley) development internationally. A birthright Quaker from Philadelphia, Alfred Parrish left the United States in 1879 and spent the remainder of his life in Europe, mostly England and Italy. His daughter, Gladys Parrish Huntington, was a well-known novelist.

Hannah Wilson papers, 1836-1860 (bulk) 1795-1920 (inclusive)

Extent:: 1.25 linear ft. (2 boxes)
Abstract:: Primarily manuscript letters addressed to Hannah Wilson of Plymouth Meeting, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, a member of Gwynedd Monthly Meeting. Most of the correspondents were family and friends of the Wilson, Schofield, and Williams families. The letters contain family news with reference to social and political concerns including slavery and abolition. The letters were transcribed and published with annotations. The collection also contains photographs of the Mills family (Hannah's sister-in-law's family}, a commonplace book of Jane Maris, and some related papers.

Friends Historical Library collection of Quaker organizations' annual reports, 1800-2000 (bulk)

Abstract:: This collection consists of annual reports (and some other publications) issued by philanthropic groups, schools and other organizations that were either started by Quakers, included many Quakers in their administration, and/or appealed to Quakers. The reports were collected at various times from various sources, and are sorted by organization.
