Abstract:: Martha Deed is a retired Quaker psychologist who wrote her 1969 PhD dissertation on patterns of religious commitment among Friends. She is a prolific writer, poet, and photographer whose beliefs inform her life and work. This collection includes papers and research materials in two areas, her dissertation and her edited publication, Fritz Kunkel - The Psychology of the Whole Man.

Abstract:: George B. Jackson, Swarthmore College Class of 1921, was a New York Quaker businessman. A member of New York Monthly Meeting, he was interested in family history and compiled the collection which contains farm daybooks of his great grandfather James M. Jackson of Quakertown and the memoirs of his grandfather, William Morris Jackson, Quaker businessman, reformer, and Trustee of Swarthmore College. The collection also contains genealogical information on the Jackson, Bacon, Chapin and Morris families, as well as personal correspondence and other papers.

Abstract:: The collection contains materials which descended in the family of Daniel Wood (1729-1773), Quakers of Bristol, Massachusetts, and New York State. It includes family bibles with annotations, an essay book kept by Adelaide Hallock Wood when a student at the Oakwood School, genealogical research on the Wood and Hallock families, transcripts, notes, and a small number of family photographs.

Abstract:: Contains research, drafts and correspondence collected by Alson D. Van Wagner concerning two New York Yearly Meeting publications, Quaker Crosscurrents: Three Hundred Years of Friends in the New York Yearly Meeting, published in 1995, and New York Yearly Meeting Directory 1993. Of particular interest is the research done on identifying New York Yearly Meeting women ministers.

Abstract:: Friends World College was conceived as an accredited, co-educational, degree-granting liberal arts college combining a residence program with the opportunity for foreign travel and study. Planned as a "college without walls," it was sponsored by the New York Yearly Meeting and opened in September 1965. It was merged into Long Island University in 1991. The collection contains Mary-Cushing Niles's files pertaining to all aspects of Friends World College. Mary-Cushing Niles (1900-1993), a management expert and member of Stony Run Monthly Meeting, married Henry Edward Niles in 1923.

Abstract:: Contains the papers of the Stabler family of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Greenwich, Ct., and their collateral lines. The collection spans six generations of a Quaker family and includes diaries, daybooks, albums, pictures, and voluminous correspondence concerned primarily with family issues. Louisa Merritt Field (1826-1914) married Edward Hartshorne Stabler (1813-1877) in 1859. He was the son of Edward Stabler (1769-1831), an Alexandria, Virginia, druggist, by his second wife, Mary Hartshorne. They had three children: Mary Cope (1862-69), Edward Lincoln Stabler (1865-1959) who married Elizabeth Tubby, and Louise M. Stabler (1868-1954) who married George Howard Parker. Louisa M. Field was the daughter of Richard Field and Deborah Merritt Field of New York Monthly Meeting. Her father built the house on Willow Street, Brooklyn, in 1838, and the house remained in the family until 1922 when Edward H. and Louisa Stabler's son, Edward L. Abstract:: Minutes and financial records for the "Here a Little, There a Little" Chapter of the King's Daughters, an international Christian philanthropic association. Records are dated from the 1892-1975, with gaps. While this New York chapter was primarily Quaker, the association itself was evangelical Christian in orientation, with Baptist and Congregationalist membership in other parts of the world. Members gathered to read Bible passages, discuss Lenten observance, and perform philanthropic work. The latter included donations to the Colored Mission and production of diapers and other garments.

Abstract:: The collection contains correspondence, journals, and other papers of the Robert and Elizabeth Clendenon family who served as Quaker missionaries to the Native Americans in Tunesassa, Cattaraugus County, New York, in 1812-1816 and were early settlers of Ceres, McKean County, Pennsylvania. Of special note are the diary and correspondence of Robert Clendenon. The bulk of the correspondence was received by Lydia Clendenon Chevalier and includes two letters dictated by Jacob Johnson, a member of the Seneca tribe whom she met at Tunesassa. Other letters provide insight into the lives of her unmarried sisters who struggled to make a living as teachers. The letters mention family events, Quaker and anti-slavery concerns. Also included are research material and writing compiled by Dorothy Godfrey Wayman in preparation for her articles on the Clendenon and Chevalier families.
