Abstract:: The Olivia Stokes Hatch papers reveal the relief work of women during the early 20th century, as well as family relationships, largely illustrated through extensive family correspondence. Olivia Stokes Hatch (1908-1983) was born in New Haven, CT and attended Bryn Mawr College from 1925 to 1930. Prior to her marriage she was very active with the American Red Cross and American Conferences of Social Work. In 1939, Olivia Phelps Stokes married John Davis Hatch, Jr. an art collector, consultant, and museum director. They had four children: John Davis Hatch III, Daniel Lindley Hatch, James Stokes Hatch, and Sarah Stokes Hatch. Anna V.S. Mitchell, the sister of Caroline Mitchell Phelps Stokes, and the aunt of Olivia Stokes Hatch, spent most of her life engaged in relief work. Her career began in 1915 in Serbia and ended in 1936 in Constantinople. Abstract:: Dorothy Burr Thompson (1900 – 2001) was a prominent archaeologist who graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1923. She specialized in Greek terracotta. Burr Thompson and her husband, Homer A. Thompson, were both heavily involved with the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. The collection includes her diaries, personal correspondence, and professional papers. It also includes contains both personal and research related photographs and postcards.

Henrietta Baldwin Sperry papers, 1916-1921 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Henrietta Baldwin Sperry was a student at Bryn Mawr from 1917-1921. This collection consists of approximately 1000 of her letters. Of those letters, most are written by her to her mother about her time applying to and attending Bryn Mawr College (1916-1921). The subjects of the letters include social life at Bryn Mawr, disease quarantines, the college war effort. The collection also contains letters to Henrietta from her friend and admirer, Sheldon Clarke, who wrote to her while he was serving in the 9th Balloon Division during the First World War. The subjects of these letters includes impression of the French and Dutch people, reflection on war, training to be a balloonist, and daily life in the army. The collection also includes letters to Henrietta from her mother and third party correspondence. The subjects in these letters vary, but tend to be largely social news.

Liberty Loan Committee of Americans of German Birth or Descent records, 1918-1919 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection contains the records of the Liberty Loan Committee of Americans of German Birth or Descent, a committee that coordinated the campaign for the purchase of Liberty Bonds among German Americans in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1918, during the First World War. Liberty Bonds were issued by the United States government to finance the American war effort. These records were kept by Louis H. Schmidt, treasurer of the Committee, and pertain mainly to the Third and Fourth Liberty Loans, with inclusion of a few subscription lists related to the fifth loan, issued in 1919 and known as the Victory Liberty Loan. The collection contains correspondence, subscription forms, lists of subscribers, reports, clippings, and ephemera, including Liberty Loan volunteer buttons and six posters promoting the purchase of Liberty Bonds.

Hollis Godfrey administration records, 1914-1922 (bulk) 1913-1961 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Hollis Godfrey (1987-1936) served as president of the Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry from 1913 to 1921. He was educated as an engineer at Tufts, Harvard, and MIT, where he also taught. While living in Boston he was an administrator at the School of Practical Arts in Boston. He came to Drexel in 1913 and was the President until 1921. This collection contains correspondence, speeches, and research done on Godfrey in 1959. There is also a functionalization chart on the administration of Drexel, circa 1917.

Joseph M. Harrison subject files on 1st Regiment Infantry, Pennsylvania, circa 1870-2004

Abstract:: The First Regiment Infantry, Pennsylvania, or "The Dandy First," is considered by some to be the oldest continuously existing troop in the United States National Guard, and the only existing Pennsylvania unit that served in the Continental Army. The unit, which today is known as the 103rd Engineer Battalion, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, has fought in nearly every major American battle beginning with the Revolutionary War. The Joseph M. Harrison subject files on 1st Regiment Infantry, Pennsylvania, circa 1870-2004, are comprised of several hundred binders assembled by the former Regimental Historian and Curator of the 1st Regiment Museum. The vast majority of materials in the binders are secondary, but there is a small amount of original photographs, ephemera, and documents in some of the binders.

Abstract:: Dr. DeHaven Hinkson (1891-1975) was a prominent African American physician in Philadelphia who served in both World War I and World War II. He was the one of the first African American doctors put on staff at Philadelphia General Hospital, and the first African American to be head of an army hospital. The Dr. DeHaven Hinkson papers, 1898-1982 (bulk 1910-1970), contain correspondence, news clippings, photographs, notebooks, pamphlets, military and medical artifacts, and numerous other materials documenting his medical training and career, military service, veteran's rights involvement, and membership in fraternal organizations.

The Christian C. Sanderson collection, 1842-1966 (bulk 1900-1966), consists of Christian C. Sanderson's personal papers and the papers of his family members, as well as materials collected by him. It includes diaries, ephemera, notes, postcards, scrapbooks, slides and scripts from lectures given by Sanderson, artworks created by members of the Wyeth family, photographs, financial records, and more.

Abstract:: Chester F. Baker (1891-1963) was a municipal engineer and amateur historian from the city of Chester in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Among his many affiliations with historical and genealogical organizations, Baker was president of the Chester Rural Cemetery Association and director of the Delaware County Historical Society. The Chester F. Baker local history research and family papers, 1864-1960 (bulk 1925-1960), consist of well over 100 binders with research materials on history topics, papers from organizations with which Baker was involved, and papers relating to his work as a surveyor. There are also a few personal and family photograph albums and scrapbooks.
