Abstract:: Elizabeth U. Willis's scrapbook includes photos and clippings about her and Sarah F. Underhill, photos of the Underhill family, clippings, illustrations, and portraits of Quakers, meeting houses, and Quaker birthplaces. Quaker autographs and letters are included as well. Letter writers include Samuel Fothergill, Anne Mott, David Sands, William Allinson, William Dillywn, William Rickman, J. Stephenson, George Jones, Lindley Murray, Richard Mott, and John Barrow. Confederate money, fractional currency, colonial money, excerpts of prayers and testimonies, and embroidery and cross stitch samples are also included.

Abstract:: The volume features poems copied by various friends of Phebe Clapp Thomas, and focuses on friendship, reflection, religion, and faith. Among those extracts that were signed, signatures from the following individuals are included: Jemima Hamond, Ann M. Thorne, Elias Hicks Jr., Joseph Griffen, B. Barton, Elizabeth Wenzer, Adeline Begnor, Jane Charlotte Leach, Marcia L. Haight, and E. Mitchell. A number of extracts are unsigned, including extracts of poetry by Shakespeare and Sir Walter Scott. This volume was previously identified as an autograph book.

Abstract:: Francis Anscombe's dissertation, "The Contribution of the Quakers to the Reconstruction of the Southern States," was written in partial fulfillment of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the department of history and government at the University of North Carolina. The manuscript includes descriptions of Quakers' religious tenents and beliefs about war. It focuses largely on descriptions of Quakers' efforts at reconstruction during the antebellum era, particularly in North Carolina and Maryland, and focuses on the re-establishment of schools in southern states.
