Overview and metadata sections
Richard Tangye (1833-1906) was born into a Quaker family in Coombe Ridge, Surrey, England, but was himself not a member of the Society of Friends. His parents were Joseph Tangye and Ann Bullock. He attended the Quaker Sidcot School in Somerset, England. He married Caroline Jesper in 1859, and the couple had six children: Mabel Louise (b. 1864), Harold Lincoln (b. 1866), Arthur Llewellyn (b. 1868), Elsie Gertrude (b. 1870), Richard Trevithick Gilbertstone (1875), and Wilfred Noel (1877). In addition to being an engineer, Tangye was interested in collecting history, particularly Cromwelliana. Tangye died in England in 1906.
This collection is comprised of the single volume scrapbook of Richard Tangye, which includes reports from Quarterly Meetings, copies of letters and documents concerning marriages, and articles written by George Fox.
The Richard Tangye scrapbook was purchased by Special Collections, Haverford College in 1963.
