Delta Sigma Rho was a collegiate honor society devoted to the promotion of public speaking (forensics). It was founded in 1906. Abstract:
In response to an incident in which an African-American resident of the town of Swarthmore was denied service at a local barber shop, the Swarthmore College Race Relations Club conducted a race relations survey in the community and on campus in the 1950-1951 school year. The Swarthmore College Race Relations Club surveys, 1950-1951, is a small collection that contains the code and response of the community questionnaire, and several interviews and a card record of responses to the student questionnaire.

Abstract:
The Intercultural Center (IC) at Swarthmore College was founded in 1992 to promote systemic change toward a multicultural perspective across the institution and to foster community-building and collaboration among diverse groups within and outside of the college. The collection contains records relating to the founding of the IC and its activiites, as well as records that detail the activities of groups within the IC, specfically HOLA (Hispanics Organized for Latino Awareness/Hispanic Organization for Latino Awareness), SAO (Swarthmore Asian Organization), SQU (Swarthmore Queer Union), and NASA (Native American Student Association).

Phyllis Nelson Yuhas Papers, 1940-1944 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Phyllis Nelson Yuhas (1922-2006) was an emeritus professor of history and one of the founders of international education at Ball State University, Indiana. She graduated from Swarthmore College in 1944 and received a master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.. The collection contains letters, 1940-1944, from Phyllis Ann Nelson, a student at Swarthmore College, to her family in Iowa. She wrote weekly letters, detailing her daily activities and concerns. Also includes two day books, 1940-1940, and 1943-1944 and snapshots of Phyllis and her classmates, most not identified.

James Michener (Class of 1973) Papers, 1998-2004 (inclusive)

Abstract:
James Michener, Class of 1973, attended Swarthmore College after serving in the U.S. Army in Asia twice during the Vietnam War. One of his letters was included in the book Letters from Vietnam (Random House, 2004) by Bill Adler. His experiences in the service drew him back to the region after graduation, where he has lived since 1987. This collection draws from his writings and correspondence with teacher Kingdon Swayne, a retired diplomat whose principal postings were in Asia.

Abstract:
This collection contains the papers of Representative James H. Scheuer (1920-2005), Democrat from New York, Swarthmore College Class of 1942. It documents his long career as a politician and public servant. His early interests in housing and urban planning soon broadened to encompass the diverse needs of his constituents in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. Both in the House and in external committee work, Scheuer was actively involved in issues relating to the environment and the quality of life for people throughout the world. The papers are supplemented by a large collection of photographs (SPA 80).
