Abstract:
The Lower Merion School District was the first in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to apply for establishing free "common" public schools under legislation passed in Harrisburg in 1834. The Lower Merion School District was established in 1836. As of 2011, it still serves the needs of the students of Lower Merion Township as well as the Borough of Narberth, and includes nine schools. The Lower Merion Historical Society school ephemera collection, 1927-2011, is made up of various items produced by schools, students, and teachers. It includes a large number of school newspapers, yearbooks, photographs, and event programs.

Abstract:
Radnor Township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania was founded in 1682, shortly after Welsh Quakers arrived on the lands previously home to the original inhabitants, the Lenni Lenape Indians. Development in the area increased when new transportation routes passed through the area, first the Lancaster Turnpike (the first toll road in America) in 1794, and then the Columbia (later Pennsylvania) Railroad in 1832. The township's population doubled between 1880 and 1890 with the birth of one of the country's first planned suburban developments, Wayne. Development and population boomed again in the wake of World War II and has continued to grow in the 21st century. The Lower Merion Historical Society real estate collection, 1916-2008, is an assembled collection that contains advertisements, tax records, deeds, newspaper clippings, maps, and blueprints. The core of the collection was donated by James T. Shilcock (1919-2011), owner of Shilcock Realty Company, and the Lower Merion Historical Society has since added to it. The township of Lower Merion in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania was first settled by Welsh Quakers in 1682. It is part of the "Main Line," a collection of affluent Philadelphia suburbs located alongside the Pennsylvania Railroad line that was built between Philadelphia and Harrisburg in the mid-19th century.

The Lower Merion Academy in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, was created at the bequest of Quaker Jacob Jones in 1812. The Academy was one of the first public schools in the United States and was one of the first in Lower Merion township to provide a free education. The Lower Merion Historical Society collection on the Lower Merion Academy, 1814-2010, includes administrative records for the building and of the Academy, and a small amount of financial records.

The Autocar Company was founded as a manufacturer of commercial passenger vehicles circa 1897 in Pittsburgh and moved to Ardmore, Pennsylvania in 1900. During the first and second World Wars, the company focused on producing military vehicles. The company was still in operation as of 2011, although it was owned by Volvo and no longer located in Ardmore. The Lower Merion Historical Society Autocar Company ephemera collection, 1912-2011, is composed of photographs and ephemera relating to the Autocar Company. It includes photographs, brochures, advertisements, department memos, employee handbooks, newsletters, and newspaper articles.

Musical Coterie of Wayne records, 1911-2012 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Musical Coterie of Wayne (Delaware County, Pennsylvania), established in 1911 and still active as of 2014, began as a women's choral group that performed in the homes of members. Its first public performance was held at the Saturday Club in Wayne in 1914, spawning the group's tradition of holding annual spring and winter concerts. In 1926, the group started the Junior Coterie as a means of fostering musical interest among children; in 1953 an orchestral section of the Coterie was formed, called the Coterie Strings. The Musical Coterie of Wayne (Pa.) records, 1911-2012, contain administrative, financial, and membership records, as well as scrapbooks, photographs, printed material, and other items documenting the group's history.

Abstract:
The Suburban and Wayne Times was a newspaper covering local news, sports, business, entertainment, and other topics of interest in the "Main Line" of western Philadelphia suburbs from Bala Cynwyd to Malvern. The paper was published from 1885 until 2009, when Main Line Media News, the parent company of the Suburban and Wayne Times and Main Line Life, merged the two papers to form the new periodical Main Line and Suburban Life. The Suburban and Wayne Times photographs, 1972-2007, consist of prints, contact sheets, and negatives of photographs taken by the Suburban and Wayne Times for possible publication in the newspaper.
