India photograph album, 1860-1900 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This bound album contains 69 black and white photographs of various scenes in India from the later half of the 19th century. It is unknown who compiled this album, but the album was probably created by a British person traveling through India. The bulk of the images are of historic structures, such as tombs, mosques, temples, palaces, forts and ruins, in the vicinity of Agra, Calcutta, Delhi, Lucknow, and Uttar Pradesh. None of the images have any descriptive text. Some of the photographs have been identified as the works of Samuel Bourse (1834-1912) or John P. Nichols (circa 1830-1905). The first page contains a print of the arms of the colleges, halls, etc. of Oxford produced by Thomas Shrimpton & Son.

Abstract:: This collection features records from The National Bank of the Republic of Philadelphia, which was in business from 1865 to 1897. The bulk of the collection is comprised of material from the bank's early years, from late 1865 to 1867, and includes their organizing certificate of association, amendments, shareholder records, ledgers of disbursements and receipts, board of directors' election records, reports, and correspondence. Documents from 1876 to 1897 deal with further amendments to the articles of association, capital stock statements, reorganization records, correspondence with the United States Treasury, and finally with the banks divestment and merger with Fourth Street National Bank.

Abstract:: Louise A. K. S. Clappe (also known as Louise Amelia Knapp Smith Clappe and "Dame Shirley") was an author and an educator, best known for her published "Shirley Letters, which describe her experiences in gold mining camps and towns in California from 1851 to 1852. This collection documents Clappe's later career as a teacher and lecturer in San Francisco, New York City, and New Jersey. While much of the material in this collection cannot be definitively dated, it appears that most was created from the mid 1860s through the 1890s.

Cornelius Nolen Weygandt Papers, 1849-1907 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Cornelius Nolen Weygandt was born in Philadelphia in 1832 and had a career in banking at the Western Bank, located on the south side of Chestnut Street just west of Fourth Street, in the heart of Philadelphia's nineteenth-century financial district and lived most of his married life in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. The Cornelius Nolen Weygandt Papers consists of personal diaries and related correspondence and ephemera that chronicle Weygandt's life from 1849 – 1907.
