Abstract:
The Society of Friends or Quakers (today the terms are synonymous) was founded in the middle of the seventeenth century in England by George Fox and others. The Friends Historical Library Miscellaneous Manuscripts is an artificial collection, established in the middle of the 20th century to store single and very small groups of manuscripts and documents, both originals and copies. The collection includes holdings relevant to antislavery, temperance, women's rights, penal reform, and other social concerns of Quakers in the United States and in England.

Abstract:
This collection is comprised of a single folder of miscellaneous materials attributed to Quakers in New York. Included are extracts of letters to and from Dartmouth Monthly Meeting, materials related to Stephen Buffington, descriptions of the area around E. Nottingham Meeting, and manuscripts regarding Elias Hicks. Additionally, this collection includes manuscripts that appear to have lines drawn using a mathematical compass, with biblical extracts copied around the sides. Some of these items include red wax seals in the center.

"Some Memorandums respecting my beloved wife Margery Mickle", 1809 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The memorandum written by Margery Mickle's husband (name unknown) recounts Mickle's illness with "tumorous pollypus" in the corner of her right eye and her nose. Her husband writes about the series of operations she underwent to remove the tumors, the re-emergence of the tumors after a number of operations, and the doctor's recommendation that they remove her right eye. The manuscript describes Mickle's decision not to undergo the operation to remove her eye, and recounts her final days, including visits from friends and family, and some quotes from Mickle's last days, as well as a description of her final moments and death in 1809. The manuscript provides a detailed account of medical practice at the time, as well as the traditions surrounding death and dying.
