The volume begins with a brief genealogical history of White's ancestors, who came from England or Scotland, and initially settled in the Carolinas. White also describes his childhood, early education, Quaker experiences, college years at Earlham College, and business endeavors in adulthood.

Abstract:: The autobiography or memoir of Ruth Abbott Rogers is structured to act as a tour of the family home, called Quillity, outside of Philadelphia. The manuscript therefore acts as both an autobiography of Roger's own life in the house, and as a family history.
