Abstract:: This collection contains 113 photographs and over 50 pamphlets, books and letters pertaining to the topic of the 1982 Lebanon War. The 1982 Lebanon War began on June 6, 1982, when Israel invaded Lebanon in hopes of pushing the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) out of the country and in reaction to the attempted assassination on Israeli's UK ambassador Shlomo Argov.

Oliver Wendell Holmes lines on the presentation of his portrait, 1892 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Oliver Wendell Holmes was an American physician, poet, and humorist notable for his medical research and teaching, and as the author of the "Breakfast-Table" series of essays. He was born in 1809 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and died in 1984. He received his M.D. in 1836 from Harvard Medical School. His most well-known essay was the controversial "The Contagiousness of Puerperal Fever" (1843). In 1886, he received honorary degrees from Oxford, Cambridge, and Edinburgh Universities. He was elected an Associate Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia on May 4, 1892. His portrait had been presented to the College several days earlier, on April 30. This small collection consists of two typescript pamphlets of "Lines by Oliver Wendell Holmes on the presentation of his portrait to the Philadelphia College of Physicians", as well as a handwritten copy of the poem.

Margaret McHenry papers, 1930-1948 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Margaret McHenry earned her doctorate in English from the University of Pennsylvania in 1931. Her dissertation was titled "The Ulster Theatre in Ireland." Following her graduation, she taught English at Roxborough High School in Philadelphia and continued to write. This collection contains writings by Margaret McHenry, including "The Ulster Theatre in Ireland;" poetry; a biography of S. Weir Mitchell; and "A Booklover's Britain," later "England in English." For the most part, each of her works is represented by a nearly finished copy; and in some cases, with drafts and notes.

Corneille McCarn Rucker papers, 1893-1987 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Corneille McCarn Rucker, an aspiring poet, was raised in Nashville, Tennessee and Hawaii before attending Vanderbilt University. She was the first woman to publish in The Fugitive, an influential poetry journal. It appears that despite this success, Corneille, in general, had a difficult time publishing many of her poems. This collection documents the lively social life and literary aspirations of a well-educated young woman in the early 20th century. Corneille McCarn Rucker memorialized her life in an extremely narrative and vivid fashion through letters, diaries, writings, and scrapbooks.

Abstract:: The collection primarily comprises the editorial files maintained on each contributor to the journal. Included in these files are correspondence between the authors, translaters, and editors of APR, manuscripts submitted for publication, galleys corrected by the authors and editors, and editors' votes and comments on submitted manuscripts. Other series include a small section of administrative correspondence, financial records from 1972-1980, photographs of the writers whose work has been published in APR (many of which may be viewed online), and an incomplete run of the periodical.

Daniel Hoffman collection of poetry imprints, plays, and writings, 1948-2008 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection includes books, chaplets, published lectures, journal issues, and exhibition catalogues from the personal library of American poet Daniel Hoffman (1923-2013). The majority of the collection consists of small-press poetry collections. Some of the collections feature Hoffman as translator or include introductory material written by Hoffman, and some of the anthologies include his work, but the great majority of the material is by others.

Emerson Bennett's Dollar Monthly, 1860 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Emerson Bennett's Dollar Monthly was a monthly magazine of literature and fashion published in Philadelphia in 1860. The magazine was edited by the prolific author of westerns and romance novels Emerson Bennett with John T. Hamelin. After the initial year of publication Bennett withdrew from his editorial duties, and Hamelin remained as the editor of the newly named American Dollar Monthly. This collection consists of volume 1 of Emerson Bennett's Dollar Monthly bound in a single volume, dating from January to December of 1860. The magazine contains short stories, poems, articles, illustrated plates, cartoons, needle and fancy-work patterns, and regular columns. This volume contains a long serialized piece by Bennett, The Mountain Lily; or, Adventures in the Wilderness: A Companion to "Prairie Flower", which appears in every issue.
