Brunner, author and educator, is a native Pennsylvanian who is known nationally and internationally for her contributions to nursing practice, particularly in the area of medical surgical nursing. She is perhaps best known for writing Textbook of Medical and Surgical Nursing and The Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice. This collection documents Brunner's professional nursing and writing experience and her association and membership with various institutions she attended or served. Abstract:: Dorothy Ann Mereness, R.N., Ed.D., F.A.A.N., was Dean of the School of Nursing, University of Pennsylvania from 1965 to 1977 and a pioneer in the development of psychiatric nursing. This collection consists of personal papers and institutional files. The personal papers document Mereness's professional development. Although largely incomplete, the organizational files show the extent of Mereness's involvement in the development of nursing at both regional and national levels.

Annie Warburton Goodrich papers, 1871-1955 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Annie Warburton Goodrich is best known for establishing the United States Student Nurse Reserve, more commonly known as the Army School of Nursing, in 1918-1919. She later became the first dean of the Yale University School of Nursing. Her papers include files of organizations with which she associated, biographical material, miscellaneous documents, and photographs. The collection also includes a typed manuscript of Harriett Rose (Berger) Koch's biography, America's Militant Angel.

Alice Merritt Robinson papers, 1920-1983 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The strength of this collection lies in the materials which relate to the professional training of nurses and nursing education issues, particularly with regard to psychiatric nursing. Robinson's work as a nursing instructor, administrator, and author are well documented by her speeches, annotated manuscripts for publication, personal and professional writings, employment files, and photographs. The collection also contains several journal issues and reprints of Robinson's writings.
