Abstract:: Dr. William Leo Schreiber, Jr., M.D., D.D.S. (1878-1949) was a 1901 graduate of the School of Dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania, studying under Dr. James Truman (1826-1914), a professor of operative dentistry, dental histology, dental pathology, therapeutics, and materia medica, as well as the dean of the Dental Department from 1883 to 1895. This volume contains typewritten and manuscript notes from Dr. James Truman's materia medica lectures.

Abstract:: This book of notes was kept by David Greenman during a course of Materia Medica lectures delivered by Dr. Adam Kuhn at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1785. The lecture notes themselves are not limited to Materia Medica in the strictest sense, in that they also include some information about physiology, pathology and therapeutics. The notebook is briefly inscribed by Dr. Edward Cutbush (1772-1843) an officer and surgeon in the United States Navy.

The first section of the notebook focuses on the theoretical principles of chemistry, while the latter half of the volume lists and describes various substances organized by their scientific classifications. Dr. James Woodhouse (1770-1809) was a prominent chemist and lecturer and chair of the chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania.

Abstract:: This collection contains the papers of John L. Stewart, an educator and Public Service Commissioner for the state of Pennsylvania. Ranging in date from 1890 to 1927 (with one 1806 newspaper) these letters, newspaper clippings, notes and pamphlets outline the progression of Stewart's career from principal of the Northeast Manual Training School to professor at, and eventually president of, Lehigh University. Documents concerning a 1926 Pennsylvania Supreme Court case that questioned legality of Stewart's position on the Public Service Commission are included in this collection, as are many letters of condolence received by Stewart's wife upon his death.

Robert H. Nones papers, 1885-1940 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Robert H. Nones (1864-1936) was professor of prosthetic dentistry, dental metallurgy, crown and bridge work, and clinical dentistry at the Medico-Chirurgical College of Philadelphia and served as the dean of the Department of Dentistry at the college from 1898 to 1906. His papers include lecture notes, his thesis, and a scrapbook documenting the Stomatological Club of Philadelphia.

Abstract:: Arthur Bertram Gabel was a professor in the dental school at the University of Pennsylvania and the author of the American Textbook of Operative Dentistry. This collection contains Arthur Bertram Gabel's lecture and research notes. There are four types of notes in this collection; Brazil lecture notes, student lecture notes, professional lecture notes, and research notes, which range in date from 1921 to 1952. The research concerns the "flow of methyl methacrylates" and the lectures cover a wide range of dental topics.
