Abstract:
The Office of the Executive Director is the lead office in charge of administering the business of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. The Executive Director oversees the activities of the College of Physicians staff including staff of the Historical Medical Library, the Mütter Museum, the Francis Clark Wood Institute, and the Finance Department. The Executive Director also oversees the College functions of institutional advancement, communications, membership, and special events. The records in this collection document the everyday administrative activities and governance of the College, and span the years 1984 to 2010, with the bulk of materials dating from 1997-2003. Abstract:
The Committee on College Collections of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia was established in 1935. Over the years, the Committee on College Collections worked closely with the Committee on the Mutter Museum; by 1939, the same Fellows served on both committees. The Museum Council of Philadelphia is the oldest and one of the largest regional associations of museums in the United States. Gretchen Worden was an avid supporter of local, national, and international professional organizations. She spent her career at the Mütter Museum of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia and later joined the Museum Council of Philadelphia. The records in this collection document the everyday administrative activities, operations, and programs of various committees of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and the Museum Council of Philadelphia, and span the years of 1932 to 2006. Philadelphia Flower Show minute books and financial records, 1927-1996, 2004

Abstract:
The Philadelphia Flower Show’s history extends back to 1829, when the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) hosted its first public horticultural exhibition in Masonic Hall on Chestnut Street, called the “Spring Flower Show.” Three years later, in 1832, PHS hosted the first fall “Harvest Show.” The Harvest Show (at times called the “Autumnal Exhibit”) immediately became an annual event. In addition, from time to time, PHS hosted or participated in daffodil, rose, peony and other flower shows. The exhibitions were both large and small, and at times competitive. The Spring Flower Show, which was initially held intermittently, was an annual event by 1871. Abstract:
In response to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS) was founded on April 15, 1865, in Philadelphia by Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Brown Wylie Mitchell, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Ellwood Zell and Captain Peter Dirck Keyser. The object of MOLLUS was and is “to cherish the memories and associations of the war waged in defense of the unity and indivisibility of the Republic; to strengthen the ties of fraternal friendship and sympathy formed from companionship-in-arms; to advance the best interests of the soldiers and sailors of the United States, especially of those associated as members of this Order, and to extend all possible relief to their widows and children; to foster the cultivation of Military and Naval Science; to enforce unqualified allegiance to the General Government; to protect the rights and liberties of American citizenship, and to maintain National Honor, Union and Independence.” The MOLLUS collection...(see more)

Abstract:
The Schuylkill Navy of Philadelphia was founded in 1858. It is the oldest amateur athletic governing body in the United States. By charter, "[the Schuylkill Navy’s] object is to secure united action among the several Clubs and to promote amateurism on the Schuylkill River." The Schuylkill Navy records documents the history of this rowing organization from 1859 to 2009. An organization dedicated to hosting rowing events for its member clubs and visiting teams, the collection houses the administrative records of the Schuylkill Navy and its member clubs, including the original founding members as well as clubs that joined the organization later; and records related to the planning and promotion of regattas. Abstract:
The College of Physicians of Philadelphia developed the Section on Humanism in Medicine to help enrich the curriculum of local medical schools in the area. This initiative was conceptualized in the early 2000s and ended in 2007, with funding supported by Horace W. Goldsmith and Arcadia Foundations. The Section aimed to bridge the arts and humanities with medicine, inviting visiting scholars, doubling as successful poets and writers, to present their compositions and artists to exhibit their creations surrounding the core theme of hope and healing amongst pain. The Records of the Section on Humanism in Medicine spans from 1986 to 2007. Abstract:
The Library records contains documentation of the Drexel University Library from its creation in 1891 to 2003. Drexel University Library has been housed in three different buildings; the Main Building (1891-1958), the Korman Center (1959-1982) and W.W. Hagerty Library (1983-2010). The library was also responsible for running the library school until 1962, with the exception of the years 1914 to 1922 when the library school was suspended. The documents in this collection constitute a record of the activities of the directors, the internal library departments, and the intensive planning of the form and function of the two library buildings.
