Abstract:

Crawford Hallock Greenewalt (1902-1993) was a chemical engineer and the President of the DuPont Company from 1948 to 1962. He had a passion for the natural sciences, and combined his love of ornithology with photography. He was especially known for his high speed photographs of hummingbirds. His ornithological interests included bird songs, the radiance of hummingbird feathers and the evolution of shapes and sizes of birds in relation to their flight abilities. The Crawford H. Greenewalt papers document Greenewalt's personal study of ornithology, primarily his work on hummingbirds. The collection dates from 1951 to 1993 and consists primarily of photographs taken by Greenewalt, and technical data collected by Greenewalt. The images photographed by Greenewalt exist in many different formats throughout the collection, including prints, negatives, and slides. Paul E. Bechet papers, 1899-1947 (inclusive)

Abstract:

Paul Esnard Bechet was born July 28, 1881 and died January 3, 1962. In 1903, he received his medical degree from Tulane University. Early in his career, Bechet assisted during the yellow fever epidemic of 1905 in New Orleans. From 1909 to 1934, Bechet worked at the New York Skin and Cancer Hospital as a clinical assistant, assistant physician, and physician. In his later life, he owned a private medical practice in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The Paul E. Bechet papers consist of the personal papers of Paul Esnard Bechet, M.D. (1881-1962). These papers consist mainly of correspondence with colleagues. Also included are certificates and awards, records of his medical practice, and historical photographs.

Eva and Georg Schiffer, with their parents, lived in Vienna, Austria before World War II and escaped the Nazis in 1939 by finding refuge in the Netherlands and then immigrating to the United States through a voyage from Southampton, England. Their family material contains Eva and Georg Schiffer's school notebooks, photographs, and ID cards, dating from 1934 to 2011.

Abstract:

The Section on Otology and Laryngology (later Otolaryngology) was established December 12, 1893, under Section 1 of the Rules Governing Sections. The original Executive Committee of the Section included J. Solis Cohen, Charles Burnett, and B. Alexander Randall. Its first meeting was held December 20, 1893, where Harrison Allen was elected as Chairman and Charles Burnett as Clerk. The Section continued to meet on the first Tuesday of every month. In late 2005 or 2006, nearly all College sections were discontinued, including the Section on Otolaryngology. This collection contains material related to the Alfonso Corti centenary celebration, held November 21, 1951. It was collected and compiled by Douglas Macfarlan. Alfonso (1822-1876) Corti received his medical degree at Vienna in 1847 under the supervision of professor Josef Hyrtl, with a thesis on the bloodstream system of a reptile. Abstract:

The Yamanakas arrived in California prior to 1910, and lived on Railroad Avenue in San Francisco before moving to Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago a decade later. The Yamanaka family photograph collection comprises 312 loose photographs, including photo postcards, of the Yamanaka family, friends, and their community in California during the 1910s-1920s. Included are a number of studio portraits as well as portraits of activities in the Bay Area, Japan, and other areas in the Americas.
