Elizabeth Powell Bond Papers, 1856-1958 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Elizabeth Powell Bond (1841-1926) served for four years as Matron of Swarthmore College and was appointed as its first Dean of Women in 1890. She retired in 1906. 1906. A birthright Quaker and lifelong member of the Society of Friends, she played an important role in the development of coeducation at the College. (1860-1926), diaries and journals (1856-1925), business papers, speeches and articles, pictures, and memorabilia. Correspondents include Louisa M. Alcott, Ellen Emerson, Hannah Clothier Hull, William Lloyd Garrison, and others.

Branson-Jackson Family Papers, 1794-1962 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Anna M. Jackson and her daughter, Anna M. (Jackson Branson) Theiss, were Quaker activists in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Anna M. Jackson was very involved in reform activities in New York City. She served as Chairman of the Women's Prison Reform Committee, and was also involved in the Women's Municipal League and the Political Study Club. Her daughter, Anna Morris Jackson ("Pansy"), attended Swarthmore College for two years, and in 1909 earned a B.S. in Education from Columbia University. Anna was involved in Green Street Monthly Meeting, Friends General Conference, and helped to organize the Inter-Racial Committee of Philadelphia. The collection contains correspondence, journals, and memorabilia. It also includes related materials of the Davis, Price, Jackson, and Fox families, as well as some correspondence. Parrish Family Papers, 1780-1966 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Collection contains papers of the Parrish family, a prominent Philadelphia Quaker family. Includes correspondence, writings, and other papers of Edward Parrish, first president of Swarthmore College. Also of special interest is the correspondence of Dillwyn Parrish and his aunt and uncle, William and Deborah Parrish Wright; the letters of the Wrights in 1835 and 1836 give information about abolition and anti-slavery efforts in Lancaster County. A scrapbook assembled by Clemmons Parrish contains autographs and letters collected by his brother, Thomas C. Parrish. While most of the items in the scrapbook contain merely a short note and signature, there is some substantive correspondence including letters from John Dickinson, Samuel Parsons, John Neagle, and Maria Mitchell.

Swarthmore College Alumni Records and Surveys, 1894-1980 (inclusive)

Abstract:
This series contains Alumni Records Office procedures documents as well as alumni surveys conducted by the College and various committees. Arthur Beardsley's 1894 survey of alumni was used as the basis for The Alumni Historical Catalogue, 1873-1892. A survey conducted by an alumni group, The Garnet Band, was used gain support for the resumption of Swarthmore-Haverford football and the weekly publication of the Phoenix. After World War I, the Dean's Office conducted a survey of the military experience of men students. Collection also contains procedures documents and computing instructions for the Alumni Records Office in the 1970s.
