Abstract:
Phyllis Pray Bober (b. 1920) received her B.A. from Wellesley College in 1941. In 1973 she accepted the position of Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Bryn Mawr College which she held until 1980. Bober's life long interest in culinary history led to courses, "historical banquets", and a book: Art, Culture, and Cuisine: Ancient and Medieval Gastronony. The collection consist of miscellaneous materials on Bober's career, miscellaneous research notes, typescripts, materials course notes, lecture scripts, correspondence (organized by subject matter), miscellaneous correspondence filed chronologically, tapes and disks for her talks, and materials from her own graduate and undergraduate education.

Lucy T. Shoe Meritt papers, 1888-2003 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Lucy T. Shoe Meritt (1906- 2003) was an acclaimed archaeologist, scholar, teacher and editor who received her B.A, M.A, and Ph.D degrees from Bryn Mawr. During her life time, Shoe Meritt taught at Mount Holyoke College and the University of Texas at Austin, was a fellow at the American Academy of Rome, and served as the Editor of Publications for the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. Additionally, she was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study and the American Institute of Archaeology. She received the Gold Medal of the Archaeological Institute of America for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement in 1976. The collection is largely comprised of Shoe Meritt's correspondence with her family and notable scholars who were her contemporaries. It also includes diaries, publications, academic and professional papers, as well as photographs, postcards and scrapbooks.

Mary Katharine Woodworth papers, 1787-1989 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Mary Katharine Woodworth (1900 – 1988) graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1924 with a Greek and English major and a minor in archaeology. She received her Ph. D in English from Bryn Mawr in 1933. After her book on British poet and genealogist Samuel Egerton Brydges was published in 1935, she began teaching in the English department at Bryn Mawr, and introduced the college's first course on 20th-century writers. She received a Distinguished Teaching Award from Bryn Mawr in 1968 upon her retirement. Her bequest of her entire estate to Bryn Mawr in 1988, which included Chagall's The Violinist, made her the 4th largest contributor to the college at the time. Her papers include personal correspondence, journals, research notes, and financial records. Additionally, the collection includes correspondence between Woodworth and writers – including E. E. Katherine Lower papers, 1946-1970 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Katherine Lower came to the Carola Woerishoffer Graduate Department of Social Work and Social Research in the fall of 1946 as a part time lecturer in social research. Eventually she progressed to lecturer, associate professor, professor and finally director and dean of the department. During her administration as director, the social work faculty grew as did the student enrollment. She greatly expanded and enriched the graduate curriculum. The bulk of the collection consists of office papers relating to the development and history of the department.

Abstract:
Henrietta Cozens (fl. 1900-1930s) was a horticulturalist and a friend of the artists Elizabeth Shippen Green Elliott (1872-1954), Violet Oakley (1874-1961), and Jessie Willcox Smith (1863-1935). In 1902, the three artists held their first group exhibition at the Plastic Club, a professional organization for women artists on Camac Street in Philadelphia. After their experience renting studio space at Bryn Mawr College to escape the summer heat of the city, they decided in 1902 to lease the Red Rose Inn in Villanova, where they lived and worked until 1906. The collection consists of correspondence, art, photographs, papers, and other miscellaneous materials.

Abstract:
Dorothy Foster was a student at Bryn Mawr from 1900-1904. The papers consist of her letters written by Foster to her mother, Genevieve Stimpson, during her junior and senior years of college (1902-1904). The letters primarily concern her school work, her duties as class president, news about the college, guests she hosted, and lectures she attended. They are arranged in folders by date, with the exception of the first folder of miscellaneous items including academic records and an essay about May Day. Dorothy Foster was born in 1883 in Salem, Massachusetts, daughter of Genevieve Stimpson and James M. Foster. She majored in English and Philosophy and held the offices of Senior Class President in '04, secretary to the Philosophy Club in '03- '04, and membership in the English Club in '03-'04. Zelma Corning Brandt (1891-1990) was a social crusader active throughout the twentieth century. Her chief interests included the independence and development of colonial countries, American Indian affairs, nuclear disarmament, women's issues, and geriatric concerns. The collection consists of correspondence, travel notes, diaries and writings, and publications and reports, especially from 1960-1989. Brandt's longevity and attention to detail provide a complete view of various world and domestic issues and events through this period. Zelma Brandt attended Bryn Mawr College from 1909 to 1911.

Abstract:
Lucy Evans Chew graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1918. Shortly after her graduation, she married Samuel Chew, an English professor at Bryn Mawr. For the majority of their married life, the Chews remained in the area surrounding Bryn Mawr. The Lucy Evans Chew Collection is primarily comprised of 58 volumes of her diaries from the years from 1920 to 1968. The diaries include descriptions of her daily life, her association with the college, her travels, and her reflections on her life.
