Abstract:: This collection consists of miscellaneous photographs, collected over time from various sources, documenting the American Friends Service Committee and its projects. Post-World War I and post-World War II and Vietnam War relief work are well documented, and there are also photographs of AFSC work in the United States, Africa, other parts of Asia, and the Middle East.

Hunn-Karsner Photograph Collection., 1870-1970 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The collection contains photographs of the family of Quakers Ezekiel Hunn and Lydia Jones Sharpless Hunn and their granddaughter, Katherine Hunn Karsner, who married Joseph Reed Karsner in 1930. Compiled Katherine Hunn Karsner, it includes 19th century family albums, early twentieth century photographs, and also focuses on Katherine's daughter, Mary Ann Karsner Kegler (1932-1983) who moved to Alaska as a college student and was one of the founders of Chena Ridge Monthly Meeting.

Swarthmore College Civilian Foreign Service Training Program records, 1942-1946 (inclusive)

Abstract:: During World War II, Swarthmore College offered relief and reconstruction training programs, initially at the graduate level for men in the Civilian Public Service (CPS), and later as an undergraduate major. This collection consists of meeting minutes, correspondence, syllabi, reports, and other documents relating to Civilian Foreign Service (CFS) training programs at colleges and universities, particularly the CFS program at Swarthmore. The collection was compiled by J. Roland Pennock, a professor in the Political Science Department who oversaw both the CPS and CFS programs.

Friends Meeting for Sufferings of Vietnamese Children Records, 1966-1969 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Friends Meeting for Sufferings of Vietnamese Children was founded in 1966, to bring injured and orphaned Vietnamese and Amerasian children to the United States for medical treatment. Some children were placed in foster homes or were permanent adopted. The organizers worked in cooperation with Welcome House in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and with other organizations. The group disbanded in October 1969.

Stephen G. Cary papers, 1930-2002 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Stephen G. Cary graduated from Germantown Friends School in 1933 and from Haverford College in 1937. He earned a master's degree in international administration from Columbia University in 1943. Between 1946 and 1969, Cary worked for the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), and was the chairman of the AFSC from 1979 to 1991. Cary was a member of the Haverford College Board of Managers from 1955 to 1969. In 1969, he joined the staff as vice president of development. He was acting president of Haverford from 1977 to 1978, and served as senior vice president of the College from 1979 to 1981. This is a collection of his professional and personal papers. Materials include documents related to the American Friends Service Committee, Haverford College, and the Clarence and Lilly Pickett Endowment for Quaker Leadership.
