Projects with the most extensive holdings include the NYU Art Conservation Center, Friends Neighborhood Guild House (1961-1965), Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Friends Center Complex (1971-1979), and the Fred W. Noyes Foundation Museum (1979-1981). Collaborations with Robert Venturi are indicated within the container list.

The Victoria Donohoe Collection includes materials related to her career as a writer for Philadelphia Inquirer, as a researcher, an art historian and critic whose interests were in Philadelphia architecture and city, and in the progression of architects in the region. George Pohl negatives and prints, circa 1955-1986 (inclusive)

Abstract:

George Pohl, Jr. (1931-2023) was a self-taught photographer who lived and worked in Spain and Philadelphia, Pa. from the 1950s to the mid-1970s. He documented the work and student life at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Fine Arts, as well as the independent work of faculty, architects Louis Kahn and Robert Venturi, among others. He photographed the early years of Penn's Institute of Contemporary Art. Pohl's personal photography mainly documents the people and places in Philadelphia, especially the Fairmount and Spring Garden neighborhoods. The George Pohl negatives and prints include 35mm black and white photographic negatives, contact sheets, 35mm color slides and photographic prints, dating from about 1955 to 1975.

Abstract:

Charles Joseph (1847-1927) and Mary M. Cohen (1954-1911) were siblings and philanthropists, who were involved in organizations such as Congregation Mikveh Israel, Gratz College, and the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Mary was a founder of the National Council of Jewish Women. The Charles and Mary Cohen Collection consists of newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, Charles' diary, correspondence, and various writings, dating from 1846 to 1920.

Sabato Morais (1823-1897) was the founder of the Jewish Theological Seminary, professor of Biblical Exegesis at Maimonides College and the Jewish Theological Seminary, and a hazan for Congregation Mikveh Israel in Philadelphia. The Sabato Morais Collection consists of correspondence, literary works, financial and legal records, printed items, and photocopies of microfilm, dating from 1845 to 1897.

Binswanger/Solis-Cohen Collection, 1739-1981 (inclusive) 1880-1981 (bulk)

Abstract:

Emily Solis-Cohen (1886-1966) was a poet and author, and worked with the Young Women's Hebrew Association, Jewish Welfare Board, Hebrew Sunday School Society and the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Solomon Solis-Cohen (1857-1948) was a doctor, professor of clinical medicine, and worked with the Jewish Theological Seminary, the Jewish Publication Society and the Young Men's Hebrew Association of Philadelphia. The Binswanger family originated in Germany, moving to the United States in 1841, where descendant Miriam Binswanger married Jacob da Silva Solis-Cohen, connecting the two families in 1875. The Binswanger/Solis-Cohen Collection consists of the personal materials of Emily Solis-Cohen Jr., Miriam Binswanger Solis-Cohen, and Solomon Solis-Cohen, as well as the birthday books of Clara Binswanger and family materials of the Binswanger family, dating from 1739 to 1981.
