Herbert M. Hadley served as General Secretary of Friends World Committee in Birmingham, England, from 1956-1962, then moved to Philadelphia to head the FWCC American Section until his retirement in 1980. Born in Oklahoma, he graduated from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, in 1939. He was married to Ruthanna Davis Hadley.
Research and editorial papers of Herbert M. Hadley which were assembled when he wrote a history of the Friends World Committee, Quakers World Wide, which was published in 1991.

I remember when Herbert was doing research in the Friends House Library in 1982 summer he found in the notes of disarrayed papers minutes - he took notes when there was more than one copy and copied others. This practice probably continued while he worked in the Woodbrooke College Library. The boxes were loaned to Woodbrooke for the 1982-83 academic year. - Ruthanna Hadley.
