Overview and metadata sections

An oblong, marble paper, covered volume comprised of handwritten culinary and household recipes by an unknown author in 1836. The book was probably written in England. A table of contents is numbered 1 to 40 on the inside front cover. There are over forty recipes in the volume on the first fourteen leaves. The remainder of the volume is blank except for one medicinal recipe at the end of the volume. The recipes include bitters, cakes, custards, meat dishes, picklings, puddings, and sauces. There are many recipes utilizing chilies or essence of chilies including chutney, koftas, pickled mango, pulao, Tapp sauce, and tomato sauce. Other recipes in the volume include apricot jam, German puffs, macaroons, mock lobster, oyster sauce, and short bread. There are some household recipes including cold creams and powerful freezing mixtures. Gatherings are semi-detached from spine.
