Abstract:: This collection relates to the Virden (or Virdin) family of Delaware, specifically Samuel Virden (1793-1876) of Kent County and his descendants. Samuel's children and their spouses also figure prominently in this collection. The Virden family papers, spanning the years 1783-1901, consist of thirty-six letters, receipts, deeds, accounts, and other documents.

Abstract:: The Truxton W. Boyce genealogical research and family papers contains twenty-six three-ring notebooks and nine folders of genealogical research notes, family photographs, correspondence, and other ephemera related to nineteenth- and twentieth-century generations of Boyce's family lines from Delaware and Virginia. Boyce's research includes the Boyce, Justis, Morrow, Shreve, Wright, Brownley, Lawrence, Sebree, Adams, and Tuley families, as well as the family lines of his wife, Doris Jolls Boyce (including the Jolls, McColgan, Colge, Wise, Lutz, and Lorenz families). In addition to the genealogical focus of the collection, nine autobiographical scrapbooks document the family life of Truxton W. Boyce and his wife, Doris Jolls Boyce, who began their married life in 1942 in Newark, Delaware.

Abstract:: This collection contains 22 oral history interviews providing a wealth of information on history and culture of the New London Road/Cleveland Avenue community in Newark, Delaware. These interviews, collected during two oral history projects by University of Delaware Professor Bernard L. Herman and students from 2004-2006, feature members of the New London Road community and discuss various aspects of life in the predominantly African-American community. The collection contains transcripts of selected interviews created by students as well as research data, recipes, and galley proofs for the book "Food Always Brings People Together: recipes, poems, and stories from the New London Road community, Newark, Delaware," written by the University of Delaware Center for Material Culture Studies, under the direction of Professor Herman.
