Helen Murphey graduated from Philadelphia General Hospital (PGH) in 1925. After additional education from the University of Pennsylvania, she became an obstetric nursing educator and supervisor of prenatal clinics and obstestrics at PGH. She also initiated a LPN program for the Philadelphia Board of Education. After 20 years at PGH, Murphey joined a government aid program as a director of nursing education. She served in South America and in Liberia as the Director of the Nursing School at Monrovia General Hospital. Murphey retired in 1963.
Mary Murphey Hankinson graduated from PGH in 1935 and worked as a nurse in Lancaster, PA.
