Overview and metadata sections
Miriam Kahn Arnold was born on June 4, 1852, in Kentucky to a German father and English mother. In the 1880s, Miriam married Ezra Wolf Arnold, and had a son, Albert. After becoming a widow in 1882, she and Albert began traveling abroad and continued to do so throughout the rest of her life. Miriam passed away in 1930 at age 78.
This collection contains the travel journals of Miriam Arnold. Ranging from 1887 to 1889, these two journals discuss her travels in Europe and Asia. The collection also contains some loose journal entries, ephemera and travel documents inserted in the journals, and letters, as well as typed transcriptions of some of Arnold's journal passages. These transcriptions were created after Arnold's death at an unknown date. In the journals and passages, Arnold discusses her day-to-day activities including sightseeing, the people she met throughout her travels, and commentary on how people from different cultures and backgrounds viewed the locations she visited.
Collection is arranged alphabetically.
