Overview and metadata sections

Mary E. Taffe of Broomall, Delaware County, Pennsylvania was born in 1922. She graduated from Sharon Hill Academy and Chestnut Hill College, and worked as a librarian for the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News for 41 years before retiring in 1985. In her obituary, friends remembered, "She planned her vacations down to the last detail, spending weeks researching the place she was going to see. During her visit, she would take pictures and notes...[for] elaborate scrapbooks...each meticulously assembled with a handwritten narrative and pictures with captions." Taffe retired in 1985 and passed away the following year.
