Abstract:: George Gray (1840-1925) was a politician and judge from New Castle, Delaware. A member of the Democratic party, he served as a United States Senator from Delaware from 1885-1899. He was later appointed to the U.S. Circuit Court, Third District from 1899-1914, and served as a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague. Records in this collection include correspondence and legal papers, primarily documenting his career as a judge and arbiter. An index of papers in the collection is included.

Francis B. Gallagher collection of Fenian Brotherhood records, 1866-1870 (bulk) 1862-1870 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Fenian Brotherhood, the American branch of the Irish Revolutionary Brotherhood, was established in 1858 with the goal of establishing an independent Ireland. As well as raising money and gathering arms to send back to Ireland, the Fenians also engaged in military activity against the British, leading two failed invasions of Canada. Factionalism within the organization led to the Brotherhood's decline by the 1880s. This collection primarily contains the correspondence of Francis B. Gallagher, a Fenian Senator and district treasurer from Buffalo, NY with other senior Fenian officials. Also included are some administrative records, including circular letters, finance reports, and meeting minutes. The papers document the Brotherhood's activities, including its failed invasion of Canada, as well as the internal divisions that led to the organization's demise.

Kennard's diary records his travels through Ohio, Michigan, New York, Canada, Connecticut, Vermont, and Pennsylvania, including travel by rail, steam and canal boat, and coach, and comments on visits to Quaker Meetings and with Friends.

Jane Rhoads Morris journal, 1889

Abstract:: Jane Rhoads Morris's journal was written for her family at home during her trip to Canada during August and September, 1889. Her daily entries describe, in detail, her experiences camping in the Canadian wilderness, accompanied by her cousins and Indigenous people they employed to paddle them in canoes to and from each campsite, as well as interactions with Indigenous people the group meets during their travels.

Abstract:: Charles R. Pancoast (1854-1931) was a photographer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania active from the 1870s to 1922. In his shop, Pancoast developed his own photographs as well as those of other photographers. He enjoyed traveling and captured many images from foreign locations. Charles R. Pancoast lantern slides, late 19th century-early 20th century, consist of over twelve hundred slides taken by Pancoast in Philadelphia and during his travels throughout the North America, Asia, the Middle East, and South America.

Taffe (1922-1985) lived in Broomall, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. She worked as a librarian for the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News for 41 years.

The first notebook contains a collection of letters from June 1853, addressed to his daughter, Elizabeth T. Troth, of Samuel Troth's travels. The second notebook contains various letters from Samuel Troth to friends and family about various events between 1852 and 1861.
