The Reading family is one of the oldest families in Hatboro Township, dating back to about 1780. Members intermarried with other prominent families of the area including the Yerkes and Lukens. Thomas Reading operated several mills in the Hatboro area in the mid-19th century, and members of his family also operated a general store.
This collection includes two ledgers for several mills operated by Thomas Reading, 1856-1874, and four day-books for a general store operated by the Reading family, 1831-1881.
Gift of Linford Reading, circa 1980.
