"Jefferson M. Moak worked at the Map Collection of the Free Library of Philadelphia in 1974-1976 and the Philadelphia City Archives from 1987-2000. He is currently senior staff archivist at the National Archives at Philadelphia. His publications include: Philadelphia Mapmakers (Philadelphia, The Shackamaxon Society, 1976), Atlases of Pennsylvania (privately published, 1976), and Bibliography of Delaware and New Jersey Maps and Atlases (privately published, 1987)."

This collection consists of information on Chestnut Hill compiled by Jefferson Moak while writing his Master's thesis for Temple University, "A Fair and Impartial Seating? Division, Distribution and Development of Land in Southeastern Pennsylvania, 1682-1741: The Application of the Land Polices and Practices of William Penn and other Proprietary Officials to Roxborough, Chestnut Hill, Whitemarsh, and Springfield in the Lower Wissahickon Valley" (1998). It encompasses notes on the early development of Chestnut Hill; research materials relating to Chestnut Hill such as, the Chestnut Hill Water Co., newspaper clippings from the Germantown Telegraph relating to Chestnut Hill, J. Campbell scrapbook, miscellaneous items from National Register research; Chestnut Hill deeds from City Archives; brief of titles of Chestnut Hill and Wissahickon from City Archives; miscellaneous rolled plans and posters of Chestnut Hill; and a metal card file of Chestnut Hill building permits.
