Abstract:

The Peace and Disarmament Committee of the Women's International Organisations was founded in 1931 (informally called the Women's Disarmament Committee). The PDCWIO was formed to promote the Conference for the Reduction and Limitation of Armaments and called itself the "greatest concerted action for peace ever undertaken by women".

The Peace and Disarmament Committee of the Women's International Organisations was founded in September 1931. It was informally called the Women's Disarmament Committee (formally the Disarmament Committee of the Women's International Organisations); and changed its name in 1935 to Peace and Disarmament Committee of the Women's International Organisations. The PDCWIO was formed to promote the Conference for the Reduction and Limitation of Armaments (1932-1934, Geneva, Switzerland) and called itself the "greatest concerted action for peace ever undertaken by women". The organization had between twelve and fourteen constituent women's international organizations and five national organizations, including the International Council of Women, the World's Young Women's Christian Association, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and the League of Jewish Women; associated national consultative members included the National Committee on the Cause and Cure of War (U.S.) and the Women's Peace Crusade (Great Britain).The PDCWIO was headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and the president was Mary A. Dingman. The organization ceased operation about 1940.
