Overview and metadata sections
Roger Easton graduated from Haverford in the Class of 1972. He obtained his master's degree from the University of Maryland, and his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. He is a professor in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). During the time at Haverford, he was one of the creators of the fictitious character George Stephens, which became a famous myth in the 1970s and 1980s. He was also a member of the Haverford College baseball team.
This collection consists of materials related to the fictitious George Stephens created and collected by Roger Easton, a football explainer created by Dana Swan, and a schedule for the junior varsity baseball team. The collection of "Stephansiana" relates to the First Annual George Stephens Memorial Dinner held in 1970, an exhibit of George Stephens memorabilia, and various pieces of evidence regarding Stephens' existence and exploits, including exams, student submissions, letters, and a telegram. The football explainer was created by Head Coach Dana Swan to introduce football to novice Haverford faculty members.
