Abstract:: The Frankford Yellow Jackets were an early twentieth-century football club located in the Frankford section of Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The team was the first professional football team to play in Philadelphia, joining the National Football League (NFL) in 1924 and winning the NFL championship in 1926. The Yellow Jackets ceased operations in late 1931, and its franchise was returned to the NFL. In 1933, the NFL granted an expansion franchise to Bert Bell and Lud Wray, who formed a new team named the Philadelphia Eagles.The Historical Society of Frankford Frankford Yellow Jackets collection, 1923-1931, consists of photographs, negatives, programs and other ephemera relating to the Frankford Yellow Jackets.

Abstract:: David E. Vannicelli (1926-2009) and Mary Appolonia Vannicelli (1927-2009) co-founded the King of Prussia Indians, a youth-oriented athletics program offering supervised competitive football games and related activities, such as cheerleading, in 1956. In 2013, the organization changed its name to the Upper Merion Viking Youth Football Association. The David and Mary Vannicelli collection of King of Prussia Football Association records, 1956-2010 (bulk 1990-2005), consists of administrative and financial records, newspaper clippings, event planning materials, game programs, photographs, issues of the football association's newsletter, team yearbooks, a playbook, and awards. A small amount of material pertains to the Vannicellis and the Vannicelli Foundation.

Abstract:: Robert "Tiny" Maxwell (1884-1922) was an influential college and professional football player who attended Swarthmore College from 1904-1906. In 1984, Ralph Keyes wrote an article about Maxwell for Sports Illustrated. This collection consists primarily of photocopied newspaper clippings and other research materials assembled by Ralph Keyes for his article. Of special note are a small collection of original photographs of Tiny Maxwell, from his boyhood, through his football years, and adulthood.

Abstract:: John Oexle Barth, nicknamed "Moose," was a coach at Quakertown High School in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Known as the "founding father" of Quakertown High School sports, he was inducted into the Quakertown Teacher's Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Pennridge-Quakertown Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. The John O. Barth Quakertown High School sports scrapbooks, 1920-1989, consist of newspaper clippings with some photographs and documents relating to Quakertown High School's sports teams and Barth's leadership as a coach. The collection also features one record book of "The Athletic Committee of Quakertown High School" (established 1920).

Abstract:: This collections contains forty-three photographs of L. Hollingsworth Wood, Haverford College Class of 1896, and his fellow students and faculty members at Haverford circa 1892-1896. The photographs primarily show Haverford sports teams, students, faculty members, theatrical productions, and classroom and dorm scenes. The collection also includes a poster advertising a football game between Haverford and Swarthmore College held at Haverford on November 23, 1895.
