Overview and metadata sections

"M. K. Paine" was a Druggist and Pharmaceutist based in Vermont in the 19th century, known from similar extant advertisements.

Purchased from Duane E. Merrill by auction.

Processed by George Allan, completed October 2023.

This poster presents men in a forest, gathering sap and adding it to barrels to make a "plaster" for medicinal use. The advertisement presents the various maladies the plaster is said to help with, and indicates both the price, and that it was being sold at the place the poster was originally placed. Also on the poster are various names, including "Forbes and Co. Lith", presumed to be the printer, "W.A King", the artist, and "M.K. Paine". The address on the poster, "159 Washington St. Boston" was the address for Forbes and Co. Lith. At the bottom of the poster is the line "Entered according to act of congress in the year 1868 by M.K. Paine in the clerks office of the district court of the District of Vermont".
