This is a finding aid. It is a description of archival material held at the Haverford College Quaker & Special Collections. Unless otherwise noted, the materials described below are physically available in their reading room, and not digitally available through the web.
Overview and metadata sections
There is no concrete information on any of the journal writers, although there is an Anna J. Albertson (1854-1914) and an Anna Newlin Albertson (1846/7-1930). Although Anne Collins may have been nee Balderston and a Quaker, there is no proof that can be made from the materials in the collection.
The collection primarily consists of journals of trips taken and recorded by Anne Collins in the period of 1936 to 1965. In addition, there is a diary and trip journal kept by Anna Albertson in 1907 and another trip journal kept by Anna A. Collins in 1912.
The Collins Family papers were donated to Special Collections, Haverford College in 1995 by Dan Collins.

Arithmetic book kept by John Albertson
Physical Description1 items
1. Notebook of arithmetic problems, 1834, perhaps created by a teacher for her or his students. An appended note says it belonged to grandfather Chalkley A? or G?
2. On the inside back cover, inscribed Joseph Walton and Jane Swift, 1838. Perhaps a commonplace book, which may also contain original verse
3. Tooled "Jane Swift" on the cover, a commonplace book of verses dated from 1834-1843 with various authors' names inscribed, also drawings of flowers. Comments on the texts by Catherine Blecki, 1995, included
4. Anna J. Swift, 1846. Mostly original verse: on poetry, on death of her mother, a dream she had, etc.
5. Elizabeth G. Swift "Daily Journal," 1851. Begins "I attended meeting this morning. Nathan Douglas and Nathaniel Sands were there." Also contains compositions or stories.
6. Inscribed D.J. Wills on the flyleaf, the notebook contains manuscript notes on various businesses; also recipes, 1850s

These are all trip journals with the exception of no. 1, which is a diary of events for the year

2. Journal of trip to Europe by Anna M. Albertson beginning in July 1909, including postcards and some photographs
3. Journal of trip to Europe by "Albertsons and Wills" as noted on the cover, though on the flyleaf inscribed Anna M. Albertson, beginning August 1909. Included are postcards, cuttings of famous paintings, photographs, perhaps of the author
4. Journal of a trip beginning in Madeira by Anna A. Collins, 1912. Included are postcards
5. Journal of a trip to Mexico by Leslie and Anne (although the last name is not given, later journals suggest the last name of Anne is Collins), 1936. Included are photographs and postcards and a letter to Mrs. Lester (Anne) Collins.
6. Journal of a trip to the British Isles and Paris by Sophie and Anne (Collins), 1936. Included are postcards, including photo postcards business cards
7. Journal of a trip to the Smoky Mountains, 1938, Sea Island, 1940 and Canada, 1941. There is no inscription of an author, but appears to be the same handwriting as the journal to the British Isles, thus Anne Collins. Included are postcards and magazine clippings.

2. Journal of trip to Guatemala, Antigua, Coban, 1946. No author is noted, but handwriting the same as no. 1, so perhaps by Anne Collins. Includes photo post cards.
3. Journal of trip to India, Pakistan and Holland, ca. 1947. No author is noted, but handwriting the same as no. 1, so perhaps by Anne Collins. Includes photo post cards.
4. Journal of trip to South America and Africa by Lester and Anne Collins, 1948, v. 1. Handwriting the same as the 3 journals above. Includes photo post cards.
5. Journal of trip to South America and Africa by Lester and Anne Collins, 1948, v. 2. Handwriting the same as the journals above. Includes photo post cards, stamps and a photo.
6. Journal of trip to Jamaica by Lester, Anne and Dan Collins, 1948. Handwriting the same as the journals above. Includes purchased photos and post cards.
