Abstract:
The bulk of this collection consists of about 60 letters written by William Nisbet to his mother and sister during his travels abroad in the 1860s. William F. Nisbet was a retired businessman and travelor from a wealthy New York family. In 1865, at the age of 30, he retired in order to travel. In 1858, he traveled to South America, and from 1865 to 1868, he traveled around the globe. During his travels, he wrote letters and sent artifacts and artwork back home to his family in New York.

Margaret Trumbull Corwin papers #, 1912-1971

Abstract:
Margaret Trumbull Corwin (1889-1983) received an A.B. degree from Bryn Mawr College in 1912 with a major in French and a minor in German. After graduation she worked at Yale University Press until 1919. In 1916 she took a leave of absence to work as executive secretary to the Connecticut Women's Committee of the Council of National Defense in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1919 Miss Corwin went to France with the YMCA and was stationed in Beaune at the American Expeditionary Forces University. Upon her return, Miss Corwin served as executive secretary of the Yale University Graduate School from 1919 until 1934. In 1934 she was appointed dean of New Jersey College for Women (part of Rutgers University), now Douglass College. She held this position for twenty-one years, until her retirement in 1955. The material in this collection consists mostly of copies of letters home, photographs, various notes, and printed material. It is an odds-and-ends collection. Gertrude Plaisted photo albums, 1893-1902 (inclusive)

Abstract:
This collection is comprised of photo albums primarily featuring the European travels of Gertrude Plaisted and her mother, Mabel Plaisted, in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Photos of architecture, especially churches and cathedrals, are some of the most prevalent in the collection. Many images depict city life and local inhabitants, while others capture the grandeur of the physical scenery. Additionally, a number of photos are art reproductions of Italian sculptures and paintings. Photos of note include those featuring a young Gertrude Plaisted posing or exploring, as well as select pictures that highlight the living conditions of local inhabitants.

Also includes a file of genealogical and biographical information on the Johnson and Power families and a small amount of miscellaneous papers.

Rebecca Mary Hannum correspondence, 1918-1924 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The collection contains the correspondence of Rebecca Mary Hannum (1889-1984) mostly related to her work with the American Friends Service Committee child feeling program in post WWI Germany, 1921-1924 and Peasant Industries, Poland. After the child feeling project was transferred to local groups in Germany, Mary Hannum became involved with the Peasant Industries program which supported women's handwork for sale in the United States and elsewhere. Her personal and business letters contain detailed descriptions of relief work in Germany, travel, and administration of the Peasant Industries. Also included are three letters presumably from her brothers sent from Camp Greenleaf Detention Camp, Tennessee, and typed carbons of reports of relief workers in Poland and Russia including a diary of Quaker relief worker Beulah Hurley.
